I'm going turbo and the t5 won't support my power goal .

t5 has 5 gears and isn't very strong . t56 has 6 gears alot more stronger . Look at the size difference lol

a mm or so is ok, keep in mind the input shaft relies on the spigot bearing to keep the shaft centred so once in the spigot it wont really move..

I read up on it and its says its normal , as troyman said the spigot bearing centralised the shaft .
It has 1-2mm movement.
Every manual box I've taken from a car has had input shaft play . Now I know it's normal .

I got my bell housing and flywheel today .
Now to get a clutch , after one that will hold 300 rwkw .

Getting this shifter .
A ba Bf shifter is too small . It's has a square base rather than a rectangle , same with vt-vz .

just to explain the input shaft play, your bearing running clearance is multipied the longer the shaft is,so bearing width has x clearance, then mutiply it by the input shaft length and you get the 1-2mm run out on the end of the shaft.and as said, the spigot bearing holds the weight and squares the shaft up to run correctly.make sure you replace it with a good one as the mass weight and a bad bearing will give you clutch shudder and may slip.i had a auto built to take 300-400kw.

Cheers for the info . I'll need to replace the spigot bearing anyway as the ls t56 has a different size spigot bearing ID, compared to a t5

I modified the shifter to bring it foward .
On a ls1 t56 the shifter has a linkage which brings it back over the box . Which is too far back In a el .
So I took off the linkage and I'm going to weld a shifter on top of the actual shifter .
Pics up tomorrow .

Bolt holes are different but that's on a stock t5 shifter where the edges are curved .
On a billet one where it's flat it may work if I.drill new holes. Cbf taking mine off . Il check when I take the t5 out
