It's tempting to upgrade , I've seen the xr6 turbo bb cores on eBay for $700. I don't think there genuine garret. Would my housing fit on the core ?

Now that my engine is out I want to weld a fitting to my heater pipe incase I get a water cooled turbo. What fittings did you get brazed on ? I'm thinking a 1/4 socket ?

As for your housing fitting on an xr6t core I have no idea.

Yeah definatly get a fitting brazed on your heater pipes. Even if its just the one that goes under the exhaust manifold cause that's the one that's impossible to remove with engine in. The other one is a peice of piss to pull out cause its short and doesn't go around the back of the motor.

Fittings sizes I'm not exactly sure. I just took my heater pipes to Enzed and they supplied and brazed on a suitable fitting for me. That would be your best bet. Make sure you dummie them up and make sure they clear everything. And mark them with some white out and then take them there. You could just run a bung to cover up the fitting if you aren't going a water cooled turbo just yet... Just remember the thread size will need to match the speedflow fitting you would normally fit to a water cooled turbo. Unsure what mine is. I can check this afternoon when i work on it if you like.

That be great if u can let me know what size it is . Even if I weld in a 1/2 socket I can reduce I down .
So what carries the water to the housing ? Braided or rubber hose ?

cheers

Braided hose. Rubber would probably melt being basically on the turbo. Ok I'll have a look after work and let u know.

Just had a look at my coolant lines and the speedflow fittings on them says 100 - 6 i think it means its a dash 6 fitting. Not sure on actual size cause i dont have anything here at home to measure with as my tools are at work but if you specify that you want the thread to fit a -6 when you get the fittings brazed they should know what your talking about.

Here is a pic showing fitting position behind the waterpump incase your interested

hoses are measured in sixteenths of an inch.
-6 is 6/16"
-8 is 1/2"

Oh I see. Makes sense. So that's just hose size and not referring to what size thread it would have too? Or are all -6 fittings a certain thread size/pitch aswell?

So it's close enough to 3/8 bsp . Ill get a 3/8 bsp socket and tig it to the heater pipe.

All the dash fittings have their own thread size . Their similar to JIC I'm pretty sure .

I still havnt got my tax money back . It should be over $1000. So I may buy that turbo .
So its the same size as a xr6 turbo , turbo ? And should have the same flange as my to4?

I think they are a t4 flange. So you would probs need a new manifold or if you can weld on a t4 flange onto your existing. But I'd say you'd need a bigger collector for a t4. Not entirely sure. Would take advantage of the big turbo having a tuned length manifold!!! But it all depends on budget I suppose.

Edit: the 700 you save by buying the turbs could go towards a new manifold?? Haha

Might get it later then . If I change turbo and manifold Id have to re do the hot side piping . And dump pipe . And probably get a 50 mm waste gate.

Most dash fitting will come in other thread eg Dash 6 x M10 or Dash 6 x 1/8"NPT etc

You need to use the specifc fittings. It is no good sayiing it is close to BSP etc. The thread on an AN 6 fittinf is nothing like BSP. It is like saying that 1/8" BSP is close enough to 1/8" NPT, close but the pitch of the thead is different. If you use miss matching thread you will not lock down properly or get a good seat and it will leak.

From what I understand the thread on the tapered end corresponds to the hose size. So an AN-6 fitting only fits on a -6 hose. You can also get adapters that convert from NPT/BPT/UNF/Metric threads to AN as in the above links.
For more info check out www.speedflow.com.au

Am I talking out of my a*** here or is what I am saying right?
