xcabbi wrote: From what I understand the thread on the tapered end corresponds to the hose size. So an AN-6 fitting only fits on a -6 hose. You can also get adapters that convert from NPT/BPT/UNF/Metric threads to AN as in the above links. Will do mate cheers
rods came today . It says the small end has a bronze bush which is semi finished . and that I may need to hone it . I'll check clearances . But I thought they were a straight fit ?

contacted spool and i will have to get the bushed machined to fit the pins, havnt measured the pins yet so may be in luck if they fit, if i have to machine them ill probably get a engine builder to put the pistons back in .

It sure will be , I still have that feelin that something will go wrong on the dyno .
Leading up to the engine blowing up . Many things went wrong . Just have to double check everything. All that went wrong is fixed now so fingers crossed . Gonna be a while until it sees a dyno anyway . Still a lot of work to be done .

That's not a bad price. And to ensure your bottom end for decent power. That's like 120 bucks a rod. Good value for money I say

That's a good way of looking at it . I have a bottom end for 1000 hp . But pistons wouldn't reach that . I think it would easily take 350rwkw on safe tune . But id most likely have turbo failure .
I found a way to make the pins fit . Ream them . Should have the right size at work . Or wouldn't the finish be good enough ?

Corey. You are delving into the black art of performance engine building.
Fitting the pins etc isn't as easy as just teeming the little ends out and pushing the pins in. The ends are normally heated up to expand them and then put together. Spend the couple of hundred bucks and have it done by a decent engine shop.

Yeah the rods would make it a strong motor. But 1000 hp is quite a bit, you would wanna run a main girdle, head studs and forged pistons. It's the combination of those things that would make it strong enough to handle the power. But there's guys running standard bottom ends with the right tune making 400-500whp. I think Frittz was making 627rwhp on his std bottom end before he put his built motor in. Which is F**k crazy if you ask me. But just goes to show how well the e series motors can take boost. I'm sure you'd run into other problems before breaking your motor such as diff/gearbox side of things anyway

I had a read up on google about it which turned me off reaming them. I'll call up a few engine builders .

I called one up , he said $25 per rod which is ok. He said they can't assembly it or balance it .
They send it to someone in Sydney . I should be ok to put the pistons back in myself ? It was Martin's engine reconditioning in wollongong . Xcabbi you heard anything about them ?

They did the machining work for us when we recoed an LD astra years ago.
Get a second opinion from Matt and Brett at Southern Engine Reconditioning near Kembla Grange Golf club. Their dad owns HB sales which is an engine reco machine shop in Wollongong. |
