These things still exist. Just rescued a 73 TC XLE cortina. It's one owner with log books, 250, toploader and low miles. It was literally owned by a little old lady and hasn't been driven since 1986. It's complete and all that could be seen of it from the road is a bit of the boot lid. Aside from the surface rust, there is a small amount of rust in one of the back quarters. She was nice enough to keep the rego current too. Don't know what I'll do with it yet, but couldn't leave it there!!

I had a similar car back in the 80's - TC XLE 250 Toploader, but mine was copper bronze metallic with the bone vinyl roof. I put a 2V head on it with a Waggot cam, 350 Holley & extractors,Even with the standard ratio 2.77 diff it would accelerate like hell & still get good fuel economy.
The reason the rear guards rust out is because they filled the guards with foam to reduce road noise & dust,But moisture would get trapped there & would rust from the inside out - Mine suffered the same fate. Yes, They were great cars. It's a shame more of them didn't survive. |

My dad had one of those. It was pumpkin orange with a very dark chocolate padded-vinyl roof (didn't look as bad as it sounds -- I'll dig up a pic and post it one day lol). The C pillars had little gold crests on the vinyl roof like the LTDs got.
The XLEs were/are very plush inside and I recall with the 250 cubic inch 6, it went like the clappers if you put your foot down. They had a power bulge bonnet too. Funny thing was, in the mid 1970s with the "energy crisis" dad downscaled from his Starlight Blue ZC Fairlane 500 with the 302 engine, to the Cortina, but I don't think it used much less fuel! |

Same here, though mine never had any rust, but that was a few years ago now.....accelerate.....would smoke the tyres 1st, 2nd and third for a bit.... Prolly doesnt matter what you do with it, it will only worth what someone would be willing to pay for it. Do it up a bit, and sell it to some "P" plater, that wants a bit of go. Otherwise put a 347 in it and enjoy.... Cheers Daz

What condition is the interior in?
If interiors immaculate it would be worth rebuilding standard but if tatty then might as well use to build tough streeter
