This is awesome Craig. I plan to build an XT/XR when I can, love them. It will look mint in silver.

LOL at people giving you advice. Everything you have painted for me has been better than factory.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to pics of the finished result, or you will have to show me the car again sometime.

All the best with the wedding! I want pics of the car with the ribbons and stuff.

thanks matt, its no bf xr with 20s, but i like it
its done me well for the time i've owned it, got it when i was 17, my second car

wind got under the tarp today, started blowing hard at 1.30pm,
pulled the wire rope that holds the shed power cord up, out of the wall. i had the tarp hung across it. had to go to bunnings and grab a new turnbuckle to replace the old broken one.

hopefully tomorrow will bog, rub then prime the last 2 doors, and will be ready for paint, and ready for reassembly wednesday, thursday for saturday.

everywhere i look i see more dents etc, but im doing this car on a time budget too, so its hard to say enough's enough and move on to the next bit, and have to leave dents / scratches etc

calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'

nah depends on why u are respraying, the only reason u would go back to metal is to get rid of crazy cracks or the paint is too thick and cracking or bad repairs from previous owners/repairers

car usually needs to be rubbed back to help make it straight and to blend repairs, and give the primer something to stick to.
so if the paint is ok to start with then all should be good for just a rub back

ok, well on the drivers door i went back to metal to cut out rust and have it welded, so if other panels are straight and dont need welding or bogging how far do you suggest i rub back, do i have to go back to metal to bog, sorry for hijacking this thread.

on the remaining panels i would give them a scuff back with 320 wet and dry and use a hard block to back up the paper, use a heap of water and good quality sandpaper, 3M or norton brand as generally the paper will last a bit longer

when rubbing back just let the paper do the cutting, if its starts getting slow to cut, renew the paper. u only need to scuff it back, when u dry off the area u just rubbed u should be able to see the scuff marks and no shiny spots. make sure u rub all the edges too as it is more likely to lift from these areas
