Ill be using a J3 chip from TIperformance.

I had a flash tuner before but didnt like how I couldnt adjust the tune myself. I have copied that supercharged tune over to the J3 chip and will tune it myself to suit the new setup.

If I can get 13-14psi out of it Ill be happy. Anymore than that and Ill likely get an aftermarket computer. Probably a microtech or a Wolf because there are a few tuners around where I live that use them.

Are J3 chips legal, if one were trying to obtain a legitimate engineers certificate?

Which means go & pass an emissions test, then yes it's legal. Until then, unless you have a chip by someone who has had it certified, it's not "legal".

There have been ppl who have managed to get turbo engines with big cams & aftermarket ecu's to pass NSW emissions testing, i was reading up about it on a skyline (iirc)

Cheers

Didnt get much done this weekend, I worked on the bike and cleaned the shed yesterday and went riding today.

I only got the exhaust manifold bolted up and the pedal box in. I need to remove the clutch pedal now and drill a hole for the clutch res line.

Here's the latest pic of my engine bay - yes I know the rocker and plenum dont match. :P Ill get them both ceramic coated once the car is running.

Here is what I had to cut to clear the shifter on the T56 for anyone interested. Got the box and engine in last weekend.

Cool update. Thanks for the pic of the cut out to fit the shifter, nice to know!

Cheers

Got some more stuff done today.

Built a jaycar frequency switch to control the reverse lockout switch on the T56. Fitted up the cooler, ran one of the clutch lines and covered up my T56 hole.

Just read your WHOLE build thread and wow, what a car! Turbo+six speed should be awesome!
Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks

Thanks mate. Its nothing special though. It will really need stronger rods and pistons before it shines.

Ive got it running now. Just need to finish off the dump pipe but I might get a shop to do it.

Dropped this piece of crap off at the exhaust shop this morning to get the dump pipe done.

First impressions are good. The tune is crap but once its on boost it goes well. No noticeable lag once my foot goes down and its faster than with the supercharger kit. Its running a few more psi's though. 7 instead of 5.

Once the car is done ill put the wideband in it to sort out the tune a little bit and start turning the boost up. I want at least 14 but I dont know if it will take it.

Engine bay and cooler shot

I fitted the wideband stuff on Friday night and fixed an oil leak. I didnt tighten the oil drain fitting enough so the turbo had to come off to rectify it.

I played with the J3 chip and ended up bumping up the idle to 850rpm, took out some fuel near idle, added some fuel in around 2000rpm and took a whole lot of fuel out on boost to allow for the changes the XR6T reg made and now it drives pretty good.

It starts from cold and idles without any throttle input and drives perfect.

Im sure I can add timing back in on boost and take even more fuel out to gain some power but that can wait until it goes on a dyno. Once Ive done 1000kms on this clutch I can turn the boost up and throw it on a dyno.

If it was making 195rwkw before I reckon it is at about 210-220 now. Hopefully it can get closer to 280rwkw with a bit more boost.

Might have to do valve springs first though.

Ive got this running 10 psi now. Happy days.

If I put it back into second gear and roll on the throttle it will lose traction at 80k's. : )

I cant really tune it any further on the road, I need to wind out 3rd and its a bit too fast

Im having a hard time getting it to idle right. When I come to a stop the idle always sits up at 1400. Ive tried adjusting the base idle, resetting the TPS ( it sits at .62V), putting smaller holes in the ISC gasket, blanking the ISC off, wiring in the resistor for the trans switch and retuning it through the J3 and it doesnt seem to help. It goes good for a while but after a few drives it seems to go back up to 1400.

It feels like a manual conversion problem but it didnt happen before with the T5 and no resistor for the trans position so I dunno.

Ill test the voltage at the ECU for the trans position signal tonight to see if its in range.

Any thoughts?

good to hear its all going to plan... did you have to mod the centre console to fit the T56 at all? or does the whole console sit further back now?

Cheers, Cam

It just sits further back. Only by 2cm or so.

It still secures to the plastic gearlever surround thing that mounts to the trans tunnel.

The idle sorted it outself out so the car is running really good now.

Got the datalogger in last weekend and it looks like 15psi wont be a problem for the map sensor.

Just tossing up whether or not I cbf changing the motor if I break it before turning it up.
