Hi, my name is Ben, and i am starting a overhaul of a 68 Mustang Coupe. it has taken me a while to find a sutible car, but this one stood out as being a more complete and value for money car to start on with only a couple of small (10c size) rust holes. I picked it up today.
Yes it has a california special bootlid. The interior is all complete in the car except for the steering wheel which will be changed in the future. The car at it's new home. The car didn't come with a motor or a gearbox which suited us down to the ground. After the car was put into the garage, dad decided to see how the GT500 front that came with the car would look on the car More info as i work on the car

Nice one! Have always wanted an early Mussa or (God forbid) a 55 thru 57 Chevy. Will be watching your thread with interest....
Cheers RD

well we will need to strip out the front of the interior as we are making the car RHD, but in the engine bay we will need to go back to bare metal as at one stage, a battery did explode under the hood. As for the outside, all panels, crome and parts are comming off the car for repairs and repaint. I'm yet to go thru the boot load of parts that came with it. The Landcruiser also had parts in it's boot too for the mustang.

very nice find there Ben , as for converting to RHD - Does VIC roads allow you to rego it LHD .
cause in nsw if the vehicle is over 30y's old you can retain LHD with full rego

Yes vicroads does allow for LHD registraition. and more recently they abolished the rule requiring LHD cars to wear a sign saying "LEFT HAND DRIVE" on the back. But dad and i want it to be RHD for ease of driving. i'm told it's different driving from the left side of the car.
Anyway a small update, i've emptied out the boot of the car, finding a boot load of stuff for the mustang. Empty Boot Next i am taking off the front guards.

Ok, 2.5 hours later, the guards have been removed from the car.
The rust can now bee seen more clearly here. i'm going get it cut it out and weld in a new piece. i'm now working on removing the details & lights off the guards and put them away for re use later on after the guards are repainted

we haven't decided yet as we are waiting for a call back on a quote for the conversion. The average quote we have gotten so far is between 4,500 to 7000 depending on how they do the conversion. Either cut and move or new pieces. As for the shell.... $15k.

conversoin quotes seem to be average ,
15k for the 68 is a good price , even with slight amopunt of rust in , where was the body sorced from IE did it come from the rust belt in the states

Acquarding to the huge amount of paperwork that came with the car, it was a nevada car all it's life. The car was imported from america between late 2007 and early 2008.

Changing to RHD isn't too much of a drama, it's getting them to provide a engineer's report on their work is the sticking point. but we have found two people who will provide engineer's reports on the conversions. just waiting on them to finish a mate's car to see the quality of work done on the conversion.
Anyway, the rear bumper, rear stone guard, reversing lights, License plate light, reflectors & Bonnet have now been taken off and put into storage in the house. The lights can be hard to remove as the rubber grommits (Where the wires go into the car) had gone a bit hard, but they came out without breaking. For those that don't know, a optional extra on the mustang was to have indicator lights pointed back at you which were mounted into the bonnet. Apparently this was offered as some people couln't see the indicator light on the dash. Also i've removed the badges off the mudguards. They're quite easy to remove as they have a bolt & nut on the back of the badges which allows easy removal. The nuts are behind the horse's a**.

Ok this morning, dad helped me with the bonnet & boot lid removal off the mustang. Then i hit the engine with two coats of citristrip. it's a non flamible paint stripper with a citris smell to it.
it takes about 24 hours to work. While i''m waiting for this to work, i also started to strip out the interior to prepare it for the conversion to RHD

Ok, here is a question for all of you. Is there a adaptor avaliable in Australia that allows a cable drive Speedo run off a electronic gearbox? i'm not interested in changing the speedo to a aftermarket one as i am wanting the car to be as original as possible.
