Hi Everyone,

I haven't muked around with street cars for 10 years since I was in my early 20's as I turned to racing cars instead of street cars. I have recently had cash flow problems and had to sell my 2 race cars and am now planning a slow build on this EB Fairmont V8 I just bought. I found it in Queensland on the internet. Its a one owner vehicle owned by an elderly couple who used it to go to the shops a few times a week and has been garaged all its life. It looks almost new and only has 126,000km's on the clock.

Unsure which way I want to head with it yet but I thought that by starting a thread here everyone could give me some idea's. Definately going to start with some wheels and drop it on its nuts. Thinking I should remove rear spoiler?????? I was even thinking of ditching the whole body kit and going with a GT kit except replace the bonnet scoop and vents with a boss bulge as I don't really like the original GT scoop and vents.

Anyway open to idea's and hoping to make some new friends here. Once i get my car road worthy and registered I will also join in on some cruises aswell :D

looks mint, keep the kit. if it was me id keep the wind, but i like wings on cars. if you delete the wing then your just gonna look like everyone else out there with a kit.

the GT kit does look nice however i prefer the look of the SSV kit over the GT.

but id lower it on superlows, colour code the side moulds, dark tint and clear front and side indicators. also paint the grill, delete the old man visor and give it a good cut and polish

Car will finally be here from Brisbane on Friday. I have had to wait 3 weeks for CEVA after they quoted me 3-4 days :x

Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Meanwhile I bought an original EB GT steering wheel with the cruise buttons last week.

Also pulled all my car stereo out of storage lastnight. I bought a system about 4 years ago and only had it in my car for about a month and then I got a company car so I pulled all the stereo out and sold my car. When I pulled it out I put everything back in its original packaging and stored it. Pulled it out lastnight and it was like buying everything new again. I have a pioneer head unit with rca outputs including sub outputs, 5 way pioneer 6x9's for the rear, 6 1/2" pioneer splits for the front, 2 fan cooled Boss amps (Only tempary till I can afford pioneer amps) and 1 Sony Explode 12" sub in a tuned box (Also tempary till I can afford pioneer).

Will take some pics after the weekend when I actually have posession of the car :D

no point "upgrading to pioneer" as these days sony and pioneer are about on par with each other, better off saving some cash and going something good, even cadence jaycar JL audio soundstream boston and a few others that are a cheap and good upgrade.

Gidday.

The EB looks like a really nice clean unit.

My suggestion is to retain the kit that is on it. Put some XR springs in and heavy duty sway bars to improve the handling and lower it slightly.

There are many options on what to do with the interior. You can add the Ghia seats and woodgrain trims to the EB interior, or go the whole way and put in the EF/EL dash, console and door trims etc.

Have a look through a few of the build threads and you will get plenty of ideas.

Cheers
BenJ

i dunno about that, my mate is an auto elec and he installs this stuff every day. he told me that from what he has seen and heard about and experienced with pioneer, its now getting to the stage where its not far behind alpine, and besides, america has all the good stuff pioneer makes, where stuck with the s**t. but it all comes down to personal opinion to i suppose.

I am happy with the pioneer gear. I actually purchased it all from America because back when I bought it 4 years ago nobody in Australia had the 5 way speakers as I went through picking out what I wanted off the pioneer website and then went shopping with all the part numbers and nobody had any of the items I wanted. Then ofcourse after I bought it all a few months later I noticed everyone here started selling it. gggrrrrrr

Definately going lower and am on the lookout for some nice wheels. I won't have any trouble setting it up to handle well as I used to have an EB saloon car for curcuit racing so I know how to get the best out of the suspension :D

obviously you dont like music and drive along listening to AM radio...

jump onto mobile electronics australia and see what REAL systems are made of, i dont see many if any competition cars using pioneer, and clarion is just as s**t these days.

im only saying go desent brands as there is no point going sideways when you want an upgrade otherwise you might aswell just throw your money off a building somewhere.

my systems are no way close to competition but they sound nice...

5 ways are pointless.. why have 4 tiny a** little speakers that do basically nothing and cant be heard when music is loud.. a good quality set of splits will do 11ty times better sound then 5 ways.

and for the record, there is no use putting 6x9's in with subs as you will simply muffle out the bass and it will sound like poo.

all of my statements can be backed up by simply reading the MEA site

Nice clean looking project car man, i wish you all the best with your project! It sounds like it was a great score.

I've got 6x9's in the my EB Ghia's parcel shelf, and they did pretty good for bass until i got a sub, 12" clarion, which is fine for a budget system, but it's not up to scratch of any comps that's for sure. Now i have what i think is a little too much bass so if i keep the ghia i will be looking for some good 6" 2ways to replace the 6x9's with. If i don't keep the ghia some of the stereo bits will make it's way into my Xr8, other bits will probably live on in my other cars. :D

Cheers

good starting point for sure, imo keep the wing do the bulge, colour code side stripes and grille, 18" rims (cheap and easily obtainable ebay etc) tint as dark as, who cares about stereo - it's a V8! good luck and keep us posted dude!

You still need tunes, even tho it's a v8! It's easier and cheaper to crank the stereo up to tune out when in a traffic jam that to bring up 3000rpm & burn a lot of fuel for some good v8 noise!

Cheers
