Ok did some more testing last night.
The changes are; new stiffer suspension, Larger diameter tyres, No tailpipe and then bumped the base timing. Started out doing a few runs with a mate in the car so there's an extra 100kg. First up, without timing bumped, got a best of 16.27 @ 83mph Then bumped timing a coupla degrees(unsure exactly how much because the balancer is so rusty you can't read anything!?) and passenger got out. Got a bit of wheelspin and ended up 16.02 @ 85.1mph. So obviously the larger tyres hurt acceleration, stiffer suspension probably didn't help matters either, tailpipe- neither here or there, timing picked up torque(which you can definitely feel) no doubt which explains the extra wheelspin and therefore the result we see. btw we used the BEL and the Gtech Pro at the same time(thanks Chad) which were consistently a few tenths different from each other. Unfortunately I left the Gtech in metric units which means of course you lose accuracy in the conversion. Next time I'll keep em both imperial. The next mods should be the underdrives and Crane Hi-6 plus I better get an exhaust before I get pinged for no tailpipe. |

I've just had one landed on my door step yesterday but with the LX-92 coil. I know how to wire it up but just curious about where you are mounting the control box etc.

Swap you guys. Right now Im at day 2 of timing cover removal (broken bolts on the outside of the pump). At least I got the cover off without breaking it. But those bolts are still there!

I mounted my crane box under the drivers seat to prevent it from being exposed to excess heat under the bonnet. I had to drill out a couple of new holes in the coil bracket for the LX92.
No worries Pete, glad you'll be able to put it to good use. If you've already got wheelspin causing you grief at this power, imagine what's going to happen when you start changing s**t - you might need to put your mate in the boot..

You get a torque gain you can feel with a Hi-6 so I think it's worth it. I don't think you'll ever notice the crane coil though. Mine is coming as kit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-6000-6301/ with a coil so I'll use it but it's not essential.
I'll find a spot in the engine bay to mount it. |

Not yet Ash, He said give it a month of settling before I decide. It has dropped a bit but, not enough so it will be going back.
On the exhaust front, I might throw my old 3" single off the XR on it too...the price of a custom one is right up there and I should be buying a gearbox for the Cougar instead(about 4K for gearbox). So anyway, I'll try the 3" for size and if needs too much work to make it fit I'll bite the bullet and get a custom 2 1/4" twin made. Got the engine out on that other project today too. |

Hey Pete, if you end up going the custom twin 2.25" exhaust, I've got a brand new 2.25" Magnaflow TRU-X x pipe here if you are interested.

Got any photies? I went with a 2.5 instead so bought all new Magnaflow parts to suit. I've still got twin Magnaflow tips, the X pipe and one Magnaflow muffler left. Someone bought the other muffler. Install pics are on the third last page of my build thread. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I'll keep it in mind but I'll probably just do a H-pipe. The 65mm t-body, Hi-6 and underdrives lobbed today along with a bunch of gaskets, and I mean proper gaskets like the steel insert, silicone pan gaskets and the steel/O-ring rocker cover gaskets and felpro timing cover/water pump gaskets plus a bunch of Edelbrock t-body gaskets....I thought I'd stock up because, as usual no-one stocks them here!?! New engine Ash?...not for awhile yet I'll send you some photies of the dummy up. |
