Here's the 3" single that I made for my XR all those years(13) ago.
Tried it for size yesterday and it looks like the front section will be fairly easy to fit but the rear will need a complete rejig. I'll have to fit another muffler most likely as this exhaust was over-the-top loud. Still contemplating it as it's $1800 for a custom 316 cat back which I obviously don't want to pay.

What needs replacing...

Found this dodgyness while I was under there too...

Ahh looks like someone rounded off the flare nuts and decided to cut them off...

I did that on mine, lol, because it was easier, and I see no issue with it.

Yeah Jeff, that would be acceptable at short notice but I'm afraid it's a case of..."I haven't got the correct filter so I'll just cut the ends off!?

I've decided to use the 3" single so here's my progress so far...
Made a 2 1/2" y-pipe instead of the 3" one which was a bit too large...

Welded these 4bolt flanges on last night and started on the bit over the diff, bit tricky with 3" pipe...

As it sits now. Hope to get the rest of the tailpipe knocked off on Wednesday night.

Looks good. With all the exhausts you have built you could almost start up your own business. :D

Ah no. It's good welding practice though.
Here's the tailpipe...

Just need one more bracket welded on and about 25mm added to the tip and we're in business.

Here it is; lower, with the exhaust finished.
The front only needed a drop using the spring seat and the rear needed new springs but they still haven't gone far enough I think so I'll give it a few weeks and if settles a little more we'll leave it at that.
The exhaust sounds good and it's bit louder. Luckily the stock cats are still keeping a lid on it.
Goes better in the mid to high rpm range too.
Might have some 2nd hand pacemakers to go on soon too.

Hey Jimmy,

Nah it's become the victim of more dodginess I'm afraid, namely Tap water and a 160 degree thermostat. We were coming home in it last week and it blew a hole in the timing cover, luckily as we were driving into our street!?
So I'm just waiting on a timing cover from the states. I'm ripping the engine out to do the sump gasket and while I'm at it, remove some big ends and mains for a look see and fit a new balancer.
Trying to get hold of some pacemakers before I put it back too. Know of any for sale? I'm looking for an LSD rear end too...ratio not so important as I'll put 3.7's in anyway.

Hey Pete. How does the 160 degree thermostat contribute? - I was thinking of putting one in my LPG 5.0.

I know my timing cover is ok (stupid thing already been off this year), and Im using coolant.....

Hey Nige,
160(71c) is too cold because piston ring wear goes up exponentially at temps below 80degC so in my book a 180(82c) is the lowest I go. I don't want to wear an engine out for a minor performance improvement.
Truth be known, in this case I think it was a dumb a***' fix for a dodgy cooling system...it even had the air bleed ball punched out and then fitted upside down!?! C**k heads!
