heres a photo of the ed at stock height
Image

ive recently noticed minor coolant useage in the ed, on sunday i pulled up outside my house and the car struggled to idle and was pumping steam/coolant out of the exhaust. took it to my brother inlaws work yesterday to be tested wich confirmed the head gasket. so today i stripped it down and for some reason my old man helped :P while stripping it down i noticed the upper chain guide is broken ive been told it will be fine. got the head off and took it to just heads where i was told the following. its not the original head its fitted with a early eb head (still tickford) and someones shaved it down to minimum thickness  so pending the crack test tomorrow if all is well i will need to run a shim. the price isnt bad parents are paying for it i have to pay them back in fortnightly installments. machining, crack testing, gasket set, shim, hymolar spray and head bolts is around $360. so if the head is all good i pick it up and the parts on friday, my brother inlaw will come up sunday with the torque wrench and timing light and give me a hand to put it back together again.

here are some pics

gasket went on No.1

it all went pretty smoothly, the old fella isnt a bad apprentice :P

got the headgasket sorted out on saturday back to running like a dream :D

all the bits

now over recent months ive been noticing the paint getting pretty bad in some areas so ive decided to do something about this depending on how many panels need respraying i may just spray it white as the colour it is now was a pain in the a** to spray and ive had some pretty good results with white in the past. ill keep you all posted on what happens with that anyway.

so this afternoon i got excited and sanded the roof back and primed it.

What do you think caused the apint to turn to #@$%? I read through your whole thread awhile ago now and was inspired by your do it yourself paint job, thought it was bloody good.

i think maybe in a few areas the clear was abit thin and when wet sanding we have rubbed through it also i think i may have chosen a tricky colour to spray for a first time paint job :P as i stated it was abit of a pain to spray. but hopefully these touch ups/respray to white come up better.

thanks for the positive feed back mate it looks good untill the sun hits it and reveals all and the camera does it justice.

Havnn't had it on a dyno to do a power run , but i'd estimate probably
around 210-230rwkw but its the turbo's torque that really gets you.

Cheers for keeping an eye out for a donk. whats these plans for the
xf?

i could only imagine the torque it would have :P no worries just a case of finding one in a car so you can do a compression test etc.

for the XF:
install the cam and rollmaster timing chain thats sitting in my room
Gilmer Drives been told you can get them for a 250 so ill be looking into that
manual or stalled/shift kitted c4
swap the 25 spline 2.92 single spinner for a 3.23 lsd out of a eb-ed
eventually pull the head off bigger valves and port work.
new wheels something abit wider
and possibly a respray
be slow going untill i find another job apprenticeships seeming unlikely :P
