Hey guys,
I got my parents' old 1995 EF GLI Wagon a couple of years ago for $500 and drove it into the ground. I eventually decided to spend a bit of cash and get it running again, if not a lot more powerful. So a couple of months ago I took it to a bloke in Selby, who did a Auto-Manual conversion and dropped in a 4.0ltr 6cyl BA motor with a BF loom. It made a huge difference to the power and reliability! He had to cut a bit out of the underside of the bonnet to make it fit. I was a bit worried that I might need a new bonnet. I plan on doing everything I can to convert the interior to BF. The first step I've made towards that is that I bought myself a set of front and rear XR BF seats, which will be installed over the next week or two (and I'll be posting plenty of pics of that). I've attached some pics of the build so far and a shot of the seats I'm getting. Since these pictures, I've modified the air box to fit the Pod Filter inside. Was going to ask the same about legalities on engineering stuff.
Either way, how much did the conversion end up costing you...with or without engineers certificate? Looks like a good job on the conversion, but some pictures on the underside of the bonnet and K-frame would be good.

The conversion cost me all up $4,750 for the new motor and the auto-manual conversion. I'll get some pics next time I'm with my car in the daylight haha... Stupid work.

Either way, hopefully they give you an engineers cert, it will be much easier for you when you sell the car as a whole. If it's stated in the receipt that an engineers cert. was to be given with the quoted price, then I suggest you chase for one whenever you have spare time. If they don't supply, can always call the ombudsman.

Well the mechanic said that the guy who did the welding was legally able to supply it. Do you know which division of the ombudsman to contact? I only really know of the TIO (Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman).

Hey ash, I said to you that the guy was a boiler maker & that he can write you a docket regarding the weld that you would need for a engineers report, i never said we would get you a engineers report for you thats something you need to do your self. The welder in interstate at the moment and im unable to contact him for the docket. Cheers Owen. |

Thanks for the heads up Owen, and sorry about the confusion. I'll get back to you once I've spoken to an engineer.

Update:
Last weekend my brother and I managed to get the driver seat installed, it took a little bit of modifying the mounts, but it all worked in the end! When it came to the electrics for this seat, we were a little confused about the fact that there were 4 wires running from the plug. It turned out to be exceptionally easy, just a positive and negative were needed in the end. Ended up just being a 5 minute wiring job. Anywho, the driver's seat is fully installed and good to go, now just to finish off what we've started with the back seats.
