Back in October last year I stumbled across a deal I couldn't turn down. A customer at work had moved on from his '98 EL Futura after owning it since 2000 and putting 230,000kms on the clock and hadn't gotten around to advertising it for sale.
I asked what he was doing with it and his response was "taking it to the scrap man"

Needless to say a deal was struck and I got it for an absolute steal.

She is Galaxy Blue Heritage Series and originally an "All Blacks" edition. It has been serviced regularly and is in fantastic shape for over 300,000kms.
The reason the dude got rid of it was it failed its WOF on rust in the sills (typical rust spots for falcons in NZ) but seeing as I work in the automotive trade it was all good.

The day I got it

and the following is the rust before and after

So after doing the rust, new front indicator and a couple of bulbs it was all legal :D

Fast forward a few weeks and the usual maintainence took place, changed diff oil, flushed the trans and carried out an oil change/service. I also removed the cat at this time too.

Pulled speedo cluster out and replaced a couple of backlight bulbs as they were blown.
(NOTE the s**t steering wheel)

also added the obligatory sticker of our car club/bunch of mates.

That was all that happened in 2013

This month has seen a few changes. I was at the local "pick-a-part" and got an ef air intake as most things I have read have suggested they flow a little better than the EL ones. I also installed a pod filter in the original airbox

I also sold my other car so had a little spare money to throw at the Falcon. I bought second hand XR shocks and springs, XR steering wheel to replace my one and some extractors too. Got a pretty good deal for all the gear.

Which brings us to today, I installed the steering wheel and front shocks and springs (rears will be done later this week.

Hope you enjoy!

Very nice.
does the pod filter ins the box make a noticeable difference?
now i guess you will be looking for some different rims?

and what other mods do you have planned?

The pod in the box wasn't intentional, I didn't get the EF lid so nothing lined up quite right so I improvised and made it work out of parts I had in my garage. No real noticeable difference in terms of performance but as my old air filter was stuffed there has been better economy and running with a new pod filter.

Future plans, I am putting the extractors on and I will build an exhaust at work, make the interior a nicer place to be, paint valve cover and wait for a nice set of wheels to pop into my life. Other than that I will just do it as I go. Its been a long time since I last owned a Falcon, I have been modding and driving Hondas for the last 6 years or so.

Got my rear XR shocks and springs this week, the improvement through corners and general driving is fantastic!
I also acquired some 3" marine grade stainless pipe, I will be tigging a nice intake up to make the under bonnet a bit prettier.

Couple s**t pics of the rear height

Cleaned up my extractors and got them fitted up yesterday. Definitley a worthy mod for anyone with a i6. I am stoked with the outcome and can't wait to build my exhaust!

What a month for the Falcon!

Did a roadtrip to Taupo (400kms each way) for a mates birthday, he had hired out track 3 at Taupo motorsport park and we all got to play on the track for free!
Falcon performed as expected, slow off the mark due to auto, too much body roll, s**t brakes, no LSD etc but what a s**t of fun!
Destroyed one tyre so had to drive home on the spare but it was worth it!

Open road mileage was fantastic.

Anyway got bored this arvo and changed the intake pipe and pod filter. Nothing special or fancy but it kept me occupied.

Spent a bit of time on the Falcon today, lowered it a bit more and painted my rocker cover. Also removed the rear muffler, replaced with a tailpipe I bent up at work and also welded a tip on.

Would like to go a little lower but want to get some wheels first.

Spent some time today modifying the arbox and the stainless pipe going into it. Pleased with the outcome.

No pics of the work but took a pic of it sitting in my driveway.

Trans is starting to clunk into gear and flare a bit when its changing gear, wondering if any of you experienced e series folk have any advice as in shpould I look at trans cooler or is it time to replace?

Yeah man, I'd be getting the trans fluid flushed (also get the filter and pan seal replaced) then see how it goes from there.

Does it only play up once the auto gets warm? Or does it play when cold as well?

Decent size external trans cooler is always a good investment, I'd be putting one on there regardless.

Nice work with the EL so far by the way, good to see some more kiwi's getting stuck into modding the old e-series Fords :)

Did a trans flush within the last 1500kms, it only does it when it gets warm. Bear in mind it has 315,000km and I gave it a beating on the track since the trans flush.

Check the oil and see what colour it is.
