So I spent saturday and today painting the horribly faded red trims on the XR.

I went to repco and bought whatever red I thought would suit. Had a go on one trim and it looked really wrong. Way too bright.
Image

So I asked around and found out the actual correct colour for the trims is "Monza Red".

Much better.
Image

Almost done.

And finished.

I must say, ANYONE who has an XR, paint the trims. It makes the car look 500000x better.

Looks really good resprayed, I used Autoglym to try to bring the red back but your paint job came up heaps better!

I tried having a go with some compound to try and polish them back to red, but it was a futile effort. So I gave in and just painted instead.

I'm now moving on to giving the wheels a new coat of silver. Here's why:
Image
Someone who previously owned the wheels or car must've had a nemesis because they've keyed the wheels and even attacked one with black paint.

So I was sanding one back, the top coat came off with little effort to reveal the black base coat. When I stood back and had a look, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it actually looked pretty awesome.

Had a go at painting one wheel to see how it turns out before I do the other 4.

It looks pretty nice but I need to find some clear coat, it's pretty much matte silver. Also look how the wheels react differently in different lighting conditions.

The ghia has done over 20000km's since I bought it... I've spent about 5g on stuff for it too. So that works out to be $1 for every 4km's haha.

Some new interior pics, still looking great.

Took the Ghia down for a dyno run tonight, on a true reading mainline dyno.

Image

Results!

Image

167rwkw with an auto! Hitting the limiter. The dyno operator said there's more in it because it was still making plenty of torque. Disregard the RPM numbers as the injectors were actually reaching max duty cycle making the rpm pickup useless.

Video is coming soon :D

Nice result! Is the cam set the same as delivered or have you dialled it differently? I advanced it a couple of degrees in my car to boost the mid range torque. It was 10 rwkw down at peak but I preferred it that way.
