Probably February to March. Hope your offer to help still stands lol. I think I have shot myself in the foot, money-wise . As I said, I have to save up for a new clutch. I seem to be winning a 6-bolt flywheel at the moment.

Hahaha money always ends up being the factor unfortunately :/
Offer still stands as i'd love to tackle this myself one day so would be keen to see the process first hand and help out :)
Good luck with the flywheel!
And with the clutch just check evilbay everyday (as you probably do) as they seem to have some at okay prices..

I won that flywheel. $93.00 delivered from Melbourne.

Ok, so I pulled off the bell housing this afternoon to have a look. I was pleasantly surprised. Is it just me or does this sealant look pretty new?

Image

I know the gearbox doesn't get that hot and that where it is is protected.

Front bearing housing doesn't look too bad:

Image

And it was cast in 1995:

Image

Which means um... well I don't know, something

After that I got out the degreaser and toothbrush and cleaned up the bell housing and release lever. Very relaxing doing a little bit each day to wind down after staring at a computer screen all day.

I hate 5 week pay cycles....

Thanks,

Evan.

if it was cast in 1995 than you have the newer gear box, pretty sure its just first and third gear is different, this comes up alot in the t5 gear box conversations, i know the earlier cars had a different style shifter standard,

Just the bearing housing was from '95. The rest was from '88. All that matters to me is that it works :D.

Ever wondered what happens inside your T5, or indeed, any other manual transmission? Watch this:

{DESCRIPTION}

Sure looks like a T5.

Another piece of the puzzle turned up today. The 6-bolt flywheel:

Image

I made a call to Repco today to get a price on an Exedy sports Tuff clutch to suit my car. $440.05! And that is with trade discount. So, I put it to you Fordmodders, which clutch to get from this eBay smorgasboard:

Check out the cleanliness too:

Thanks,

I have the HBC equivalent, same part number of H1220n.

Have found it to be good for a daily driver. Grips well on those occasions I have asked it too.

Cheers
BenJ

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Image

In a demonstration on why to make sure your jack is secure, my car has fallen off the jack and the jack has given the sump an upper-cut. The sump is now down for the count.

I think I went into shock. Made a phone call to the awesomely talented BenJ which was basically "Help, Ben, Help!" BenJ is going to see if he can source me a new sump. I ordered a new sump gasket, which was pretty cheap I guess at $21.00. I thought it would be over $30.00 for some reason.

Check out the dipstick. It won't go in any further than that.

Image

This is also a big safety alert. Always use axle stands when working under the car, kids. Never get under a vehicle supported only by a jack.

I only wish I had a clutch so I could slip this on when I get the engine out.

Image

Oh well, it was due for an oil change anyways.

Thanks,

Evan.

Can't just bash the sump back into shape roughly?

That really sucks. Lucky you didn't get squashed. :)

No, it's split. Dripped it's blood everywhere.

Yeah lucky I suppose. I was not under it though.

That sucks to hear Ev :(
Hope you can get it sorted out asap!
When's the clutch arriving?
Would it be worth waiting until the clutch arrives if the engine has to come out to change the sump?
Either way I hope it's fixed soon!
Btw I think I saw the xr parked in your driveway/grass this afternoon too if it was your house?

Cheers, Luke
