Hope you can get it sorted out asap!
When's the clutch arriving?
Would it be worth waiting until the clutch arrives if the engine has to come out to change the sump?
Either way I hope it's fixed soon!
Btw I think I saw the xr parked in your driveway/grass this afternoon too if it was your house?

Cheers, Luke

Clutch won't be happening for a while as I won't be getting paid until the 13th of January. Gotta love salary...

Can't really wait that long to fix it, I've got places to go, you know lol. I'm lucky that the missus has a car too, so we'll be rocking the '92 323 for a few days.

Yep, and it's still there feeling sorry for itself, waiting for surgery.

I know how that feels, been on holidays for a week now and have already spent so much money..
Because i'm only casual I don't get holiday pay either which sucks haha!

Yeah that's fair enough, I'd be lost without a car..
I'm sure you'll have it all sorted soon, Good luck!

As always if you need a hand just give me a yell!

Cheers, Luke

Hey BenJ! Remember this part?

Image

Image

It's the same gungy, rusty, crusty part we pulled off this afternoon.

I've got up to whatever the step is after disconnecting the handbrake cable (which is what I was gonna check in the first place!) in your Gregorys for those playing at home. I just got to the stage of 'Can't brain today...'

Image

That screwdriver is to prevent the full tank of fuel from siphoning out. Got 22km from the service station.

Image

Driveshaft away!

Image

BenJ is gonna help me with the engine crane tomorrow morning. With the sump, he also gave me an oil pump just in case. I think we might be ok with the oil pump, on closer inspection. Pick up tube probably bit the dust. Both are soaking in kerosene at the moment.

I will say that the best investment in car ownership is a service manual. The best $50.00 you will ever spend.

Thanks,

Evan.

Happy new year everybody!

Happy 2012 everyone! Hope everyone is well and didn't get into too much trouble last night.

As promised some photos of my engine adventures.

I started at about 8am and was ready to start engine extraction when BenJ arrived at around 9am.

We set up the engine crane, undid the engine mounts and removed the bonnet and in no time really, the engine was out. We decided that we didn't need to take it all the way out to do what we had to do, so we just rested the transmission on the radiator support.

Image

Image

Once the engine was out, BenJ left me to it. I took off the sump and thanked my lucky stars, the oil pump was fine. The pick up however, was bent. Not as badly as I thought it was though.

Image

Image

I took out the oil pump, removed the pickup tube. Turned the driveshaft to check operation. Oil went everywhere, this pump is all good. Refitted the pickup tube from BenJ's wagon's original engine and installed the pump to the engine.

Image

Found this yellow crayon mark on the log manifold. Must be a QA mark.

Image

After that I gave BenJ a call and told him I was ready to fit the super sump. Having never fitted a sump gasket before, I thought I could use his expertise. Very shortly he arrived with Snap and in no time, the engine was ready to slot back in.

Image

And by 2:30, the engine was sitting on the K-Frame. I thanked BenJ and Snap profusely and they were on their way.

Found this:

Image

Where the spanner is hanging from is the muffler mount from the original twin exhaust. Thats right, early XR6's had twin exhaust... sort of:

Image

And by 7:30, I was told I had to be social. This is where I stopped.

Image

Thanks,

Evan.

No, not yet. I haven't touched it since yesterday. I am just waiting for the shadow to move over it. I got pretty burnt yesterday . It should live and breathe tonight.

Hope all goes to plan tonight for you.

I do believe he was still in the process of jacking it up when it slipped, and stands were ready to be placed.

Just one of those things that go wrong occasionally.

Cheers
