I do believe he was still in the process of jacking it up when it slipped, and stands were ready to be placed.

Just one of those things that go wrong occasionally.

Cheers

Yep definately one of the things you file in the s**t happens basket.
Good to see you got it sorted quickly and easily.
If you need one when you do the manual conversion I happen to have a EB manual ECU here. Its a 1DAD.

Just as the light was fading on the first evening of the year, a great beast awoke from it's long slumber. Birds flew terrified from the trees as it let out an almighty roar. It's red belly...

*Ahem* Sorry. What I'm trying to say is the car is all put back together and running. Of course, being a good old reliable Falcon, it started first go. With the minor set back on dropping the nut from the positive terminal in front of the battery, never to be seen again.

Image

Checking the oil is a little bit more difficult now as it is brand new oil and you could have eaten your dinner from the sump (I wouldn't), it's so clear on the dipstick.

Image

The engine mounts must have been knackered before I tried to lift the car by them. Car runs and idles so smooth with nary a vibration. BenJ, I will get some new ones for you as soon as I can.

Is that a smartlock one?

Thanks for all your support,

Evan.

Woohooo!

Excellent news Mate!

No hurry on the engine mounts. I know where you live LOL.

Now we just need a cruise so we can all go for a run.

Cheers
BenJ

Hey everyone. I thought I would show you all the gear knob I am planning to put on when the Falcon is manual...eventually.

Monza Gearshift Knob - A033B Billet Series

I found it on eBay but I will be buying it from Autobarn as it is a whole $4.00 (!) cheaper and I won't have to wait for Auspost.

At this point, I would like to talk about my Girlfriends Mazda. More specifically the automatic gearbox operation. As with most cars, the Falcon being an example, you put the car it D and it goes through all the gears as normal. You put the shifter into 2 or S or whatever and it will hold in second gear and so on. Not so in the Mazda.

Image

You will notice there is a button marked 'HOLD'. Under normal circumstances, ie. HOLD is off, D is 1-2-3-4 as usual. But, when you put it in S, it is still automatic but locks out 4th. Put it in L and it will change automatically up to 2nd.

Now, when you push the hold button in D, you are now in 3rd S is 2nd and L is 1st.

Confused? I was. The weirdest auto I've ever come across.

Thanks,

Evan.

Quick update:

Girlfriend's parents want us to test out this ancient car fridge when we go down to Taralga this weekend. It has a cigarette lighter plug that wasn't really long enough to work in the boot. I had a think about it and within 10 minutes I had this:

This way fridge turns on with the accesories and I won't forget to turn it off and I won't have to call road service to give me a jump start.

I will have to de-mod the fridge power cable. Plug sort of got cut off.

Thanks,

Evan.

Er... I'm not the best person to ask. A) I'm not that experienced with that sort of thing and B) EB's are vastly different to BA's . What do you have at the moment?

I have 3.45's in mine, because that's what Ford put in it. It's fast enough for me, auto doesn't help, with good revs on the highway. The EA T5 will make some difference to that.

Taralga sounds familiar...
My uncle has property down there, I go riding down there regularly!
Where abouts are you staying?
Good luck with the fridge :)

Your uncle isn't Steve is it? He has a property just outside town called Blanches Meadow. We drove down the Hume to get there and went back via Crookwell, Bathurst and over the mountains.

Ghia dumped due to weight

Yesterday was really sunny and hot. Turned to rain overnight. We drove through all sorts of rain today and eventually turned to sunshine.

Love driving the falcon on the highway. Effortless cruising while frugally sipping fuel.

Thanks,

Evan.

Got paid (finally) and I have just ordered my clutch. The final major piece.

Also ordered 1989 thru' 1994 Mazda 323/Ford Laser workshop manual. So I can get to grips with the mysteries of my girlfriend's car. It's coming up to 200,000 km and we can't really afford to get a mechanic to change the timing belt. Also the central locking quit working. It would unlock but it would not lock with the driver's door. I have taken out the central locking fuse to half fix it.

Can't wait for the transformation to begin!

thanks,

Evan.
