The tyre thing was a bit of a joke there lol. I did want to replace the Yokahamas like for like, but it was near the end of the month and finances dictated the cheaper tyre. I have had kumhos before on other cars and was satisfied. I was told before at. The tyre shop that bob jane tyres are actually made by kumho.

Holy crap that bonnet came up pretty damn good !!
If you dont mind me asking, what exact products did you use to get it looking that good?
I've tried heaps of different things on mine but can never get it anywhere near satisfactory :/

I used Kitten Brand No. 2 Cut and polish. Comes in a red tin. It's their heavy duty product, for really damaged surfaces. Comes complete with a warning on the label "Do not use on clear coat". Then I polished it off with a microfibre cloth.

Hi so glad ive just read through your post
I have a 98 xh ute which sometimes thumps through 1-2 and some times 2-3
sometimes in park it doesnt start unless i slap the shifter so Im guessing shifter bushes and inhibitor
switch. (I would never have linked the two faults together in a month of sundays).

I too have been converted to ford .
being a pom and having worked with gm for 19 yrs hated ford, I moved to Oz 14 months ago
now own the afore mentioned ute and a territory. :D

Hello Darren,

I think that is the great thing about this site. When you have a problem, it's likely someone else has had the same experience and posted the solution. As I said before, I don't think that I would have worked out the headlight circuit breaker thing without doing some research on here first.

Hello All,

Over the last week or so, I have decided to do some major upgrades to the stereo. The first part arrived today:

Here's my sub box that I built last month. Taking that out for the moment as these new speakers will be run off the amp.

First job, rip out the 'Speakers'. I found that the magnets make a good tool holder:

I didn't know that the rears were 2 ways:

Did a test fit and found that I had to make some spacers:

So I finished ripping the other speaker out and started making some spacers from the left over MDF not used on the sub box:

Wow they must have been pretty rough!

Oh yes, there will be noise.

Amp Install

Firstly find a nice shady spot to work:

Probably most importantly, disconnect negative on battery to prevent shorts:

My first job was to remove the amp and old 8 ga power cable.

You may have noticed that my amp was velcroed in place before. This won't be the case this time. I used some more left over MDF from the sub box to make an amp shelf/rack/whatever for everything to screw down on.

After I decided where everything was going to go, I screwed everything down and commenced the wiring. In the middle of that, I changed which way the sub amp was facing to avoid signal and power cables coming in contact with each other.

Note my funky RCA set up. The crappy JVC head unit I have only has one set of pre-outs, so I have to split the signal with a couple of Y cables.

This is my old fuse holder, which I have had since about 2006. It's been in three of my cars and still has the original 30A fuse in it!

Running the new 4 ga power cable:

Inserted the "Power Board" into the car and hooked up all the cables:

Take it for a test run!

Probably can't see it properly. Exposure is to fast.

After a bit of tuning, I got it sounding pretty good to me. Just got to get used to the rear fill. It was very bass heavy before, which is why I installed the rear speakers. I guess you could say that it is more 'balanced' now.

The Response AA0454 amp that I got came with a remote bass controller, which I may install another day...maybe. I don't know, survived without one so far haha.

Booked it in to have the air conditioning evaporator replaced next week. It's going to cost an arm and a leg, but it will be worth it.

It's so cold now! The air con that is.

Auto electrician only had the car for a day and a half. He ended up replacing the evaporator, heater core and receiver-dryer. He showed me the evaporator, which was alot bigger than I expected. It was just covered in dye. Also, he made a bracket for the high pressure hose to tie it to the strut tower, like in EL's. This is so the hose doesn't move around and cause breakages.

So, in short, I am really happy with the result.

Thanks Windows Update for restarting when I was half way through a post.

Anyway, it's always the way that when you fix one problem, you uncover another one.

I got my air con fixed. Works great. Only problem is, that when you are idling in drive with the AC on, the idle is a bit low. About 500-550 RPM. So, using the search function, I discovered the possible cause of my problem. A faulty or dirty Idle Speed Control Solenoid. So armed with my Gregory's and Multimeter, tested the offending component. The manual says that the Solenoid should test at 9.6 ohm + or - 10%. Mine tested at 11 ohms. I decided that I should compare readings between my $25 D-ick Smith multi and my Fluke at work. Turns out that the D-ick Smith was quite a bit out. Fluke read 9.9 - 10 ohm. Resistance of leads was 0.2 ohm for the DS and 0.1 ohm for the Fluke.

So, looks like I'll have to clean it out with carbie cleaner.

I did find a replacement ISC in my usual eBay browse. $126 and it comes with a genuine Ford..............
box. The part is probably genuine as well :P .

In other eBay news, I got something nice and boring. Some custom floor mats. The supercheap ones are starting to get holes in them, so I thought I would treat myself.
