Just purchased a set of 5 NC Fairlane Ghia rims and clear indicators for $220. Pretty stoked. I'll get some pics up when I pick them up on Wednesday.

I saw noone answered about the 3 to 4 speed questions.

The 3 speeder and the 4 speeder were just as quick as each other - the 4 speeder came with a different diff ratio - it simply spread the drive amongs 4 gear ratios.

oh yeah - and it got lock up Torque converter etc. But the 4 speeder is all controlled by the Transmission controller.

You can do the conversion. You'll need to spend some time understanding the wiring. You also have a choice of either staying as you are, with seperate Engine and Trans ECU's, or moving on to an EB Series II ECU which had trans control built into it. You should be able to pretty much swap over the engine bay wiring to ECU harness to get the Auto Wiring.
If you stay pre 6/92, Series 2 you dont even have to worry about smartlock (look for a 1DCC ECU)
Otherwise youd need either a smartlock disable, or a J3 chip to bypass that.

I dont have more information than this - you can research this as fast as I can, and the last 4 cars ive had have all been i6 to V8 conversions

Cheers mate, been looking into it a lot recently.. Thinking that putting in another 3 speed would be the easiest option.

Picked up some clear indicators today, looks much neater now!

Nice ride there mate. Good to see another fairlane being loved.

In regards to the trans upgrade I have an ECU out of a fairlane I recently stripped. It was a 10 or 11 of 89 build and had the 4 speed.

I'm not 100% if that's all you will need as I converted mine I a manual an didnt get into the autos but there is also a module under the centre console that I think has to do with the speed control(?). This may be a part you also need to get.

The loom for the auto might be different too. You might need to find one with the correc plugs as early NAs had a extra trigger wire that was moved from 92 on. It may need to be a pre 92 4 speed loom to work. I will see if the loom from the stripped car is still around and let you know.

Also the power switch might have to be added if the wiring provision isn't there. And the light on the dash might need to be too.

Otherwise I'm pretty sure it would be a matter of swapping the box, ECU and speed control module. Connecting of the power switch and your done.

Hopefully Somone who knows more sees this and can correct or confirm my info.

Also using the search on here may dig up some docos, have a look at the stickys in the trans and driveline forum too.

Keep it up and browse the garage threads for inspiration.

EDIT: I just noticed on your bonnet.. Is that the base for an emblem there in the middle?

Really nice looking car man, I have a NCII myself, There is a few bonnet emblems on EBay you can get for a few bux to replace whats left of the one you have,

Was wondering if it would look good with the bumpers done in white but might be too much white lol,

I put a EF 4spd auto in mine but as mine is a V8 i just had to change the TCM over to the EF Tcm and all was good,

Only thing i dont like about the NA's is the rear lights i prefer the NC rear lights

Good work on the mirrors and doors makes it look like a different car

sorry for taking so long to reply I actually worked out the problem
it seems as though the mechanic that was supposed to be looking at the problem of the transmission didn't put any fluid in it.
I simply filled it with tranny fluid and it hasn't slipped since.
Turns out having a bone dry auto doesn't work too well.
Not happy with the mechanic at all about this as it seems as though he just wanted more money from me to replace it.

Yeah I've considered color coding the bumpers but I too think it might be too much white. Besides, the grey has grown on me lol.

Love your fairlane! 4 speed conversion would give you better highway econ as the 3 speed 2.77 diff with an overdrive gear of. 68 would probably see 1400/1500revs up the freeway. Usually 4 speeds are faster due to having shorter diff gears.

Keep the stock rims and polish them! would look sex maybe some white walls :P

seriously tho the 4 speed conversion isnt that hard :)

Thanks everyone!

Yeah I've been thinking of polishing the rims for some time now, but I don't really know how to go about it as they aren't a smooth surface, there are minor circular grooves that you can't really notice unless you touch them.
Would it just be a case of using a metal polish or is there something better out there?
Any and all advice is appreciated!

Oh, and I also finally picked up a Fairlane hood ornament so I'm pretty stoked about that.

i polished my rims with different things seeing as i had 5 wheels to do it one wheel i used brassos another i used aluminum polish on another i gave it a very light sand with 1800 then i tried just using some elbow grease on another but that hurt like hell and the last one i i left because i ran out of things and its the spare all up the aluminum polish worked the best don't have any pictures which im regretting because i had to go to a farm in deloraine so they got dirty again but ever since ive been using the aluminum polish and i love it ill buy some more and polish them and post some pictures unless you beat me to it.
