Hey dude,
Just wondering, I noticed that yours has the earlier style emblem, and has the LTD Grille. Do you have LTD or Fairlane on the boot garnish? Mine is plated as a NA fairlane but had the LTD grille an the later style emblem, and had LTD on the garnish. A fairlane I recently retired to parts was plated NA fairlane, was a couple of months newer and had the 4 speed, and it had the fairlane grille and fairlane on the garnish.. Also on the LTD the red strip goes through the centre of the taillights an the garnish, the fairlane goes through a bit lower on the tail lights. I have seen many variants of garnishes and grilles on different NAs and NCs.. I wonder if there are variations at the time they were ordered. Of if they threw garnishes and hoods at them randomly in the factory...

it was probably thrown together as they were finishing up a line.
good work on the car too i got mine for $500 with 4 months rego only problem was it kept going into limp mode half an hour of separating wires and electrical tapping later its all fixed. just getting all the services done on it now once the water pump is replaced the transmission is going to get serviced and the the diff just in case they haven't been done in a while you can never be certain at least my shocks and springs are good. ill lower it eventually and get the windows tinted im keeping the 3.9. If i were you id get the 3 speed out and put in a 4 speed apart from some wiring and center console bit around the gear stick replaced make sure you get one with the performance and economy mode still intact. i love mine its good to put it into performance for overtaking i wouldn't convert it to manual unless your going to get in mod plated and that isn't cheap. In a few years ill convert mine to manual but when i do that a 5 liter will be going in. my future plans are fit a oil catch can to stop some build up in the throttle body its worth while pull off your air hose between the body and intake box and what ever build up is there or oil is because of the pressure im putting one on mine so don't have to use throttle body cleaner as much as i would if i didn't use one. also i think its a xh Ute you get the snorkel from for extra air flow to the filter and box and if you do the exhaust if your keeping the 3.9 get a 2.5" catback exhaust and get some pacemaker extractors but make sure the catback is mandrel bent.

Without hi-jacking the thread...
Woah Darcy.. Punctuation and a paragraph helps everyone understand... From what I gathered there. Yes, I'm leaning towards some end of line slap togethers with the grille and garnish matches.. Your catch can mod sounds good, I used to get a lot of blow-by oil in the intake log.. And Im pretty sure you don't need to get a mod plate to convert your fairlane to manual.. And the XH has the larger intake snorkel which is a good upgrade from the NA one. I have a spare XH snorkel if you need too Exqsme.. I made 119rwkw when mine was a 3.9. Mods I had included a pod filter on a 3" custom intake, no brand tri-Y extractors into a custom "high flow" cat to a 2.5 machine bent exhaust with a single lukey turbo muffler in the centre. I had 9mm leads and had a Bosch gt40 coil fitted. Thermos fitted instead of the clutch vacuum cleaner.. It's only .1 of a liter but the 3.9 can rev nicely..

I'd put money that you don't need a mod plate to convert a falcon or fairlane to manual, even converting to V8 dosnt need it.. Your mums friend is a P.I.G but don't assume he/she knows all, they are not a traffic inspector, and even in my experience with T.Is they still seem to know squat.
Anyone know for sure? You don't have to change the car itself, just components, all provisions are there to fit a manual.. So there is nothing "modified".. Factory options are still factory spec AFAIK. I'm pretty sure none were factory fitted manual, the while point to them was a Luxo barge cruiser. But it would be interesting to find out wether you could order one as manual... Mine is manual, Regod, no problem.. And I'm pretty sure most of the other Lanes and LTDs on here are too.. I use to live in tassie.. Down near Kingston..

Lowlane: Sorry for the late reply. I've got Fairlane on the boot garnish not ltd.
I'm thinking the bonnet may of come off a DA as it had a hole for the hood ornament, which I don't think the fairlanes came with if I remember correctly? Either way I've got a Fairlane ornament in there now and it looks good so it's a bonus! |

I might have a LTD garnish if you want.. Or maybe the badges..
Your right fairlanes didn't get a bonnet emblem so it must be a LTD bonnet having a hole and the prope LTD grille. I might be able to get the correct emblem too.. I also have a XH intake snorkel if you need.. Check out my build thread. I started with what you have, and did everything myself too, so don't hesitate to ask about anything..

Lowlane: Cheers mate, I'll keep that in mind.
I've had a decent look through your build thread already but I find myself back there often! If I have any questions I'll let you know. |

I still remember the first time I let my fairlane to the ground after installing the bushes and super lows all around..
I forget how high they sit at standard height.. What build month is yours?

On the compliance plates..
Passenger side back of the engine bay. Near/under the bonnet hinge. It will have all the info including the engine, transmission and interior and exterior colour codes. Also the build date and option codes. Basically the cars birth certificate.. If you send it to me I have the factory manuals with the codes. Or a search on here should find the info too..

So Almost 2 years to the day and the work on the Fairlane continues. She's looking a little rougher these days but I'm hell bent on getting her looking mint again.
She is running a little rough at the moment and I'm not sure why so any help would be appreciated. The problem is as I'm driving along ( eg. Freeway driving ) It'll suddenly seem to have a loss of engine power (revs drop etc) and then continues on after about 2 seconds like nothing happened. It's started to become a more common occurrence so any help would be greatly appreciated! I'll get some pics up soon of how she sits today. |
