All I think when I see a Mk 1 esky is 2 litre DOHC, and a pair of 40mm Delorto's and 8000rpm... So Sooooo many memories hehe...

Not a bad escort.I would suggest a worked 2L pinto,as you cannot drive a turbocharged car on your P's.I use to have a pinto in my MK2 escort and a 4spd,i ripped it out and have put in a V8 clevo and auto.

i think your going to get stuck on this part of the probationary prohibited vehicle definition:

Quote:
has an engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance (other than a modification made by the manufacturer in the course of the manufacture of the vehicle, or

im fairly certain fitting any engine not meant for that vehicle or modifying the standard engine will land you in trouble if you get caught - although if you dont give the cop the s**t and the mods are mild and easy to miss and mostly to suit driveability and economy (for example EFI) you might be in the clear.

so at the very most youd be able to get away with EFI (as long as it looks like the standard setup) and some extractors and an exhaust, with heat shielding over the extractors and a very quit exhaust. any more than this and you are in danger of getting reamed.

and honestly as a p plater your not really capable of handling a high powered vehicle, hell even a standard E series 6 is probably a bit much so id suggest keeping things simple

There is nothing wrong with a pinto mate. With the right work to them they go like a rocket. The motor that was in mine use to turn to 7 pretty easy.It had a 4spd manual and a 4.11 escort diff.

You could go injection with a zetec motor but you need a hefty budget to fit that and a 5spd conversion aswell.

There is always a rotary option..

unfortunately because he is a P plater (and we dont condone flagrant breaking of the law here) all the good options are out. but he'll have 5 years of being a p plater to plan what engine hes putting in it when he is done (ecoboost 4 would be available by then)

if you DIY all the custom parts the zetec conversion doesnt have to be expensive since an entire mondeo/focus donor is between $500 and $2000 dollars - it just takes for god damned ever if you get carried away :)

pintos had a design fault so the only way to get the cam shaft out was out the back, so you have remove the whole engine to take out the cam shaft
a 1600 could go just as nice, not to mention the weight difference.....
yeah engine conversion is out of the question atm, same with webbers.

Well a 2L came out in the escorts. As for removing of the cam,if you were going to replace the cam with a different one wouldnt you just take the head off???Not much work to do that and you can change the springs and valve stem seals and also have the head milled. So all in all i dont see any problems with a pinto.

If you think you going to have problems with the law,put an extra muffler on it.It can still be angry and go like a scolded cat, with a quiet exhaust.

Its up to you.But i would go with a 2L.cheers

Fit the cam when building the engine!! OR before fitting the engine..
Springs require changing anyway..
Look at some light truck EFI engines...Esp where Mazda and Ford share ...
