I'm talking about the WHOLE lot! Wiring the ECU and everything else, not just the pedal :(

This is what the BA electronic pedal looks like. Don't try and take one out of a BA, do yourself a favour, it's an absolute nightmare! You thought getting to the dissy on an EL was bad....

You should try getting the electronic pedal out of a diesel Transit van. What a bloody nightmare that was.

whats the problem? from what i read when researching this theres not too much to it...

the engine loom connects straight to the ecu itself and theres not that much to run to the car itself... they'll need to terminate the can bus to connect the tuner though ;)

edit: one thing i would look into if i were you, if you were interested in it that is, you should be able to connect a BA cluster to the can bus.. i dont know what information will come up but it might be something to do down the track once its running...

Sounds interesting! :D But i have no idea what has to be done, this is WAAAAY out of my league hence why i have booked the car into BPT to have the work done. I'll keep it in mind though.

Well, it's nearly the end of the story. The disposal of my old SOHC engine left an empty feeling in me  , but it's all for the best i guess.

I cut a section of the bonnet bracing today to give clearance for the engine and no, a massive hole has not had to be cut in the outer bonnet panel, just what i have cut out as pictured. I also reinstalled the tailshaft.

There is absolutely nothing left that i can do, it's all up to BPT now. All i need done now is to have the accellerator pedal mounted up, ECU edited and wired, a new catalytic converter to be installed and that is it! All over, finito.

Here's a few final pictures for you:

Goodbye old faithful, you will be missed dearly  (disregard holden company car)

Nothing else left for me to do under here

There's still a dirty great gap on the exhaust side of the engine......this needs to be filled......

Good job mate. Now everyone might believe me when I say getting the motor in is an easy job :P

Hopefully BPT dont f**k you around and get the job done quickly. You will have to let us know what they do with the ECU side of things once its done.

More importantly i hope BPT share the information that lets others do this conversion a little easier.

my biggest complaint with workshops doing a conversion is their lack of 'sharing', which unfortunately is their right, its gives them business.
but.. looking impressive thus far

Thanks guys, i thank you all for your comments, ideas and input, they have been valuable in this whole process.

As for installing the engine, as Dansedgli said it's not difficult, just time consuming. If i had someone else helping me it would have been a bit quicker, but then again. I did everything by myself, not including the crossmemeber. I think it has been...4 weeks (?) doing this conversion, but that has been a couple of hours here and there after work and most of the weekends, i've also been ginning around and cleaning everything in the engine bay too. I'd say if you had a mate helping you and the right tools, you could have what i have done in a long weekend.

As for BPT, after the couple of phone calls to Barry, he has installed confidence. They sound very professional, no umm-ing and ahh-ing, just "yep no worries, it will be done" kind of thing. They have the tools to be able to edit the ECU, though aparantly this is the second time ever in australia this has been done with a stock BA ECU, but we will see. They quoted me, worst case, $1500 to unlock and install the computer, new hybrid looms etc. Though i'll see how i go, i can afford to maybe get a full tune, but again, we'll see how far time and money will stretch. What kind of power does everyone think i could expect?

$1500 is pretty good. Thats cheaper than an aftermarket ECU and you get to use the DVCT as well.

If I could have done the same when I had my Ea I wouldnt have abandoned it.

BPT have assured me it can be done, but deep down i have this terrifying feeling that it won't work....
