Be more optimistic. Nothing is impossible. It just takes time. I am sure they'll get it running :D.

Good luck with it.

$1500 is pretty good. Thats cheaper than an aftermarket ECU and you get to use the DVCT as well.

If I could have done the same when I had my Ea I wouldnt have abandoned it.

shoulda done more research :P

I researched it plenty.

The 7 months sitting the workshop wrecked it.

the vct doesn't actually do that much for performance. it delivers some lower end torque but it is mostly there for exhaust valve overlap to help control emissions etc.

The BA VCT doen't change overlap as the cams are phase-locked, ie as the intake cam is retarded, the exhaust cam is retarded by the same amount. The computer side wasn't developed enough to allow independent phasing (variable overlap) in the BA, this was first introduced in the Typhoon then the BF. This allowed the BF to run an idle speed 100rpm lower than the BA and lowered the RPM at which peak torque is delivered from 3000 to 2500, while increasing peak power RPM from 5000 to 5250.

AFAIK the VCT hardware in the BA is able to support independent phasing.

It'd be interesting to see if the BA PCM can be flash-upgraded to provide independent phasing, although it wouldn't be much help to this project with forced induction planned for down the track.

I think with a computer swap it can be done.

I read about nizpro fitting typhoon and BF ECU's to earlier BA;s to get the VCT advantages.

Think positive, I can't see it not working, the only difficult part is disabling the smartshield, then working out the cluster (leave the original ECU or use a custom BA into an EF shell) the rest is just wiring it up as per the BA wiring diagram.

Thanks for the uplifting comments guys, they really are appreciated.

The BF ECU thing souds interesting, maybe i'll look into it later down the line but i don't know it will be of a benifit to me just yet. We'll see how the B series tuners go in the near future.

Ooo, one question, can i leave the airconditioning compressor in place with the belt around it? Theres no gas in the system, but the clutch isn't goin to be engaged at all. Will this still damage it at all?

That's what i thought, thank's for confirming that. I didn't want to have to go size up another belt. I don't think the aircon will be connected up for a while yet.

you will find the air con won't actually turn on if there is no gas in it IIRC. theres a sensor to not allow the clutch to engage in case there is a leak

It should have a low pressure switch that should stop the clutch from engaging, best leave the clutch wire off anyway just to be sure.

You and me both! I'm just about climbing up the wall from not being able to drive my car. I'm driving a poverty pack '07 Rodeo at the moment, a 2.4L petrol stripper. No power windows, no central locking, no power mirrors. At least it has aircon and a cd player....at least  .

Well tomorrow is THE big day! I'm picking up the car trailer tomorrow morning at 7:30am and making the 270km one way journey to BPT in Perth where i will leave my pride and joy in capable hands.
