Yair i know, i'm scared haha. I have towed another Falcon on a trailer before but that was down the road for about 10km's. I've never done long distance towing in peak hour, inner city traffic, on a freeway........ *gulp* . It seems that 90-95km/h is the max semi-comfortable speed. My worst nightmare is tow hitch failure!

yeah not the best vehicle...
im no expert but keep the speed down...well down.. find the limit by experimenting a bit and then do not exceed it....watch for speed wobbles and trucks

Yeah, i would liked to have borrowed a bigger car like a 4x4 Rodeo, but could only wragle that out of 'em. At least the suspension is tight in it and it comes with a fuel card.
The other Falcon i towed i used a million kilometre EB fairmont with virtually no shock absorbers so it was all over the place like a mad dogs s**t haha. If i just use commonsense while under tow all should be good, thank's for the tips. |

As Twason suggests, balance is critical and chain it sensibly and solidly so it can't move either way.
You'll find 80-85 kph to be your best [safest handling] top speed on all but slightly uphill runs and much less on even slight downhill grades, be very conservative on downhill grades. If you go faster the risk of 'rock and roll' and trailer slide when buffeted by passing trucks increases vastly as you leave the 80s. If your trailer decides to overtake, you need to accelerate to pull it into line and if your already at your top speed.... If your trailer brakes are the cable type, make sure they are adjusted up and working properly, if not put off your trip until the're fixed. Having a laden car trailer slamming into the tow bar when slowing into a corner is best avoided. "If i just use commonsense while under tow all should be good, thank's for the tips." Good luck with the trip, with your attitude you'll be right. Cheers, Paul

yeah you dont want the car to sit funny like this
all i needed to do there was shift the car back about half a foot and it would have sat fine. but i forgot my ropes, the s**t ba had no handbrake and little gearbox braking. ah well fun times ahead methinks

If that Commo has an auto tranny and no auxillary tranny cooler, the auot tranny will cook. Seen it happen before.

*sigh*.....which is exactly what happened. 50km's out of town i see the engine revs raise slightly....more....more....oh sheeeeite! Untill there's no movement at all and that god-awful smell of burned, something. CJH you jinxed my day haha Bunbury Towing had to come get the ute, put it on the tray, tow my car and trailer back to work so i could get another car, this time a Rodeo. 3.2 V6 manual, with aircon thank god! It sat very comfortably on 100km/h the majority of the way, not a single bit of unsteadyness at all. So much for being back home at 12pm, i didn't end up leaving Bunbury 'till 1:30pm and only just got home then 7:45pm. Turned out to be a 650km round trip and 2 tanks of fuel. Those petrol V6 Rodeo's have big drinking problem! But anyway, the car is safely locked away at BPT, i was quite impressed with their service and professionalism. Had a good chat to the guys there, very focussed and know what they're talking about. |
