Ooooo, schweet! You've gotten further than i have haha. I still need to sell my bike and need Atomic to finish machining up those cam gears.
Have you sorted anything out about the ECU side of things yet? |

Righto! The bike is nearly sold! The boss is going to let me use the work ute to get around in and i'll be starting the journey to twincam heaven tomorrow straight after work! WOOOO! Might have some money left over for big cams . I'll take as many photos as i can along the way.

I am another one doing the conversion but into an XF . had i known about the dramas about the fly by throttle i would have saved my stock throttle body does anybody know where i can pick up an XF throttle body ? and i have also heared high praises about the EMS 8860
keep up the good work and you can never do to much homework on it keep us posted with any useful info for all your blue oval buddies out there |

Wow, i can't believe how many people there are out there doing a twincam engine conversion! And to think this was an impossible task not long ago haha.
Righto this is as far as i have gotten, not bad for four hours work if you ask me, just have to get under the car, take the wiring off the starter motor, wiring off the gearbox, unbolt gearbox, and rip the engine out! Air con compressors are completely different, and theres no way in hell you will get an EL compressor to fit onto a BA block. The oil filter is situated further forward compared to the EL engine and takes up space where the compressor would be mounted. Mechanical throttle will bolt up perfectly, although i will have to cut down the bolts used on the BA throttle as theyre alot longer and smaller in diameter compared to the EL throttle bolts. The engine bay as i left it at 11:00pm last night. Clearly the bolt holes dont line up as the oil filter gets in the way. Poor thing. Head gasket leak. Number 6 exhaust valve. Brand new alternator and power steering pump. New transmission cooler, which im going to bypass the radiator with. |

hey buddy noticed you didn't have the aircon bracket on the block when you were trying to mount the compressor.

Yup, i have that bracket and the bolts to mount it up, but the EL compressor doesn't line up with the holes in the bracket either . I do however have a BA compressor, but i will have to get some custom pipework made up for it though.

So there's no way of fitting a remote oil filter and using your EL compressor?

use the ba compressor, its easy to get new lines made up

Righto, engine and beefy box are out. And just to let you know it can be done in one piece......just haha. With a bit of swearing and threats, anything can happen.
Side on view without engine. Engine bay needs a good scrub after the header tank let go. Engine on hoist. |

NOW! Which smart person can tell me how i can attach the torque converter to the BA flexplate WITHOUT taking off the sump?
EDIT: No you cant get to the bolt holes through the starter motor opening either, bummer |

LOL matt ... its easy to take motor/box out in 1 piece... just remove harmonic balancer and its a walk in the park.
for the TC, see how theres a gap for where the SM goes? attach it there, and you should be able to get a bolt and your fingers inbetween flywheel and block in the other top hole. then use a strap wrench to turn over motor to get other 2 bolts |

That's what i thought, but through the starter motor gap, i don't think the bolts are going to fit. Above the flexplate and in the gap behind it should be easy, but how am i going to torque up the bolts so they're tight enough and dont let go? |

the starter motor gap im talking about is the 3" hole.
do them to the torque neccesary. look in the EL workshop manual if the engine can turn over easy (its harder when you put new bearings in), then turn it over from the harmonic balancer (22mm socket) |

I give in, what does the manual say?
"attach the tc to the flex-plate with care" or does it give you a helpful hint? "make sure you tension the bolts in stages" LOL [sadly] Ford must be very confident the bolts will never need checking or the box removed if it's an engine out job! It begs the questions, how did someone get the old one off and why bother? I'll stay tuned to check out the next instalment. Good luck, Paul

Cant you access them from underneath the sump? There is a blanking plate on the bottom of the sump facing the flywheel isnt there?
