I have done it a few times by my self, the last time I made a H Frame out of 1" square tube that borders the sump and mounted it to a trolley jack. Made life sooo much easier.

I actually found pulling the engine out with the gearbox attached alot easier than removing JUST the gearbox haha. I used a trolley jack and a square bit of wood on top but it kept sliding everywhere. I may design an attachment like you described to stop the bloody box slipping all over the place.
But while i'm at it, and so it makes things easier for me, are there any differences between BA and EL torque converters? The 'box i'm picking up includes a TC but it's all rusty and icky looking, i could rub it back and paint it, but there's nothing worng with the EL TC i have now and it's only done 20-30,000km's. |

Sure do, as suggested don't use the EL torque convertor on a BA box the pump drive dog is different as the BA uses a slimmer pump, I made that mistake and it cost me a pump.

It's gathered another 8mm of dust and now has a family of daddy-long-legs living in the parcel shelf. The whole stereo system now resides in my Skyline, it will go back in when the Fairmont eventually gets straightened out. I scored a complete rear extension housing, bush, seal, and speed sender worm and clip, all will just bolt straight up to the new gearbox.....which i STILL havn't got and the shifter still isn't in. I quit my job last week and am just taking it easy and having a holiday, i can survive for a few months untill i need to get cracking and find a new job again, i just don't want to go willy-nilly with my funds as i still have loans and bills to pay. Give it untill the end of the year and ask me again HAHA!
