Righto, a bit of an update. I FINALLY have my gearbox! *Sigh* About freakin' time.

Now, i have just cleaned it up and degreased it, having sat on the rack in the wreckers for the past year and a half it has gathered a reasonable amount of grime and dust and the torque converter needs a good rub down and paint as it is pretty dang rusty, surface rust mind you, i don't think it is bad enough to warrant getting a new converter.

I also learned that there is an 'ION' stamp on the side of the gearbox where 'BTR' used to be on the old 93LE. Has 'BTR' changed their company name or has the gearbox manufacturing been taken over by this new 'ION' company?

I have just stripped down the extension housing, i don't think there will be any problems with the 93LE housing.

Now, i have a new drive gear and clip for the speed sensor which i assume is wrong as it has a fair gap between the output shaft and the gear itself and it can wiggle around quite a bit, i assume this ISN'T normal? Haha.

EDIT: sorry about the bad pictures, i thought i was using a 'good' camera haha

As far as I remember "ION" bought BTR about three or four maybe five years ago. I remember the BTR factory in Albury changing the signage on the building when I was living up there.

Keep up the good work on the car. It will be worth it when you finish.

The gear was not tight from memory when I did mine. As long as it is captive it should be OK.

Okay, but it's pretty darn loose, it wobbles around a fair bit. There is probably ~1mm gap between the shaft and the inside of the gear. With the clip in it wont budge, but it still wobbles around.

Gogetta, i'm not 100% sure, i will have to check and confirm, a mate of mine that works at a transmission workshop supplied the housing, gear, gaskets etc for me, so i think i'll have to ask. The gearbox is out of an ABS equipped BA sedan.

Righto, gearbox is cleaned up, speed sensor gear on, extension housing on, box mounts on, converter scrubbed up and ready to go into the car, so i'll probably do that on the weekend.

I had an idea for sorting out the wobbly speed sensor gear, i basically used a flat strip of stainless steel for a shim, cut it out in such a shape so it doesn't become disloged...hopefully lol.

Thanks dude =)

Well, i couldn't wait untill the weekend, so i put the gearbox in tonight. Only took me about an hour this time, it was so much easier putting it in with the torque converter already installed  . The shift lever cable is installed and wiring is now plugged in.

Things left to do:

-Install three top-most bolts on bellhousing
-Install tailshaft
-Install extractors and test pipe
-Get fittings pressed onto braided hosing and welded to oil cooler
-Install transmission lines
-Oil up transmission
-Get tray made for shifter, (not hugely important)
-Put frontend back on

...and that should be all i need to do...hopefully.
