I cant remember if I read this in the thread somewhere so I'll just ask now.

Would this conversion be simpler if you were to opt for manual instead of auto?

Sounds like an interesting line of work you do. My uncle works at the Murrin Murrin mine (spelling?) in Meekatharra. I've always wondered what FIFO work would be like...

MADXF, the conversion would be mad ALOT simpler if you had the apropriate transmission, the only reason it stuffed me around was because i was trying to use the old EL 93LE, which has different internal electrics to a BA 93LE. Otherwise if that had all gone in in the first place, i wouldn't have had that hold-up. But, if you want to cut back on electronics and to simplify things further (plus the fun factor) i'd go with a T56. I only went with the 93LE as it was cheaper for me to do at the time.

Well, it has been a few months since i have seen him haha  , so it quite possibly has.

Well, i went to my transmission tech today, he discovered that i could have retained my original auto and just swapped over the internal loom and solenoids, this devastates me quite a bit lol. Oh well, you get that i suppose :x . I'll keep this auto for a while and see how it goes, otherwise i might just opt for a manual setup later down the line as i really don't think the auto will be happy to hold any sort of power.

EDIT: Ooooo, i had the opportunity of being able to pilot a six speed manual BF Tornado ute tonight, and all i can say is.......well, nothing i'm speechless, absolutely gobsmacked! The power, not so obvious under 2500rpm, but after that watch out! All without any fuss, just very linear, smooth and predicatable. I'm completely won over.

Tell me more please, I was just about to swap out the valve body and try again, AFAIK the solenoids are the same type i.e normally open, but are powered differently as below. is the guy talking from experience?

E series have common ground on all solenoids except S5.
B series have common 12V on all except S7 - (Lock up TC)

This is taken care of by different drives from the ECU.

I rewired mine internally to be the same as E series but the BA box starts in second and then selects first at around 30KPH so I had assumed that the valve body is different. The BA manual suggests S4 is to blame. Is there a difference in the solenoids?

Urgh i really don't know :( i wish i could understand the workings of these gearboxes, it would make life so much easier. Unfortunately the way i learn is by word of mouth and from trial and error haha. If i find anything out, i'll be sure to let you know. I'm going to embark on a journey to see if i can make an EL 93LE compatible with a BA ECU, i'm starting from the ground (or possibly lower than ground level :D ) and working my way up.

Maybe, if one came along cheap enough and if the funds permitted, i'd seriously consider it.

Thanks matey! I'm pretty stoked with the outcome. I was originally hoping for and would have been happy with 180-190rwhp. The only chip tickle it has had was just to get it running, as the car wasn't drivable at the time it was in at BPT they weren't able to do a custom tune. So with just a single muffler 2.5' exhaust system, a "custom high flow" cat  , and a K&N air filter it's now churning the numbers. Now if i could get 300rwhp with a huffer, i'd be over the moon :D
