I went and purchased some exhaust studs and nuts today, just another thing to tick off the list. Had a bit of fun bolting a few things together, should be sweet.

Getting ever closer to getting this turbo stuff on the road. These are all the bits i have stashed away:
Stock exhaust manifold Stock dump pipe Oil supply line Oil return line Coolant supply line 3x Banjo bolts Turbo oil filter and adapter Banjo sealing washers Intake/plenum and exhaust manifold gaskets Exhaust studs and nuts Stock turbo 600x300x75 intercooler Lower intake runners Exhaust manifold heat shielding XR6T fuel pressure regulator Walbro GSS341 in-tank fuel pump Modified heater pipes Cheapo stepper motor boost gauge XR6T MAP sensor MAP sensor socket I still need to do up an exhaust, intercooler piping, turbo gaskets, boost controller, relocate the battery to the boot and get a tune done, but that's about it. Finally getting that bumper damage repaired on Wednesday, will be two days untill i get the car back, but should be as good as new. Also, has anyone got any advice on what to do with shuddering brakes? I had new rotors, pads and bearings fitted around 3000km's ago and already i'm starting to feel a shudder, urgh! I hate Ford brakes |

Fordman, what brand are the rotors? Just contact the manufacturer if you fitted them yourself, or the fitter if you didn't. I had a brand new pair of RDA (329mm) rotors with similar k's. They warped, I had them machined, and they warped again. Fitter contacted RDA, and they came in and replaced them.
Good luck, and looking forward to seeing more of this project! Joe

Hey,
Looks like you been busy man.... Do you really have to move the battery?? Using alot of factory parts, so should all fit, even though it's a different model falcon, they are essentially the same. I saw an under battery tray intake pipe, looked ok. Surely you could do the same, and save a bit of work with the battery, unless you want to to tidy the bay up?? Keep up the good work.... Cheers Daz

This is a awsome build thread with plenty of info
Make sure u do a separate thread about using pre BA/BF BTR gearbox on BA/BF engines as this would be great for anyone who wants to do the conversion without using BA/BF gearbox. I wonder what sort of HP numbers if you kept this NA and used a E-GAS engine instead???

Joe Thanks Joe, yeah my rotors are made by RDA too, i'll see how they go, if they get any worse i'll get onto them and find out what they will do. Yeah, i'd like to move the battery anyway just to make the engine bay a bit tidier, plus it will give the air filter somewhere to live. I have seen the under battery intercooler pipes from BA's, although it's a great design it won't fit in EL's unfortunately MICKYYYY wrote: This is a awsome build thread with plenty of info Make sure u do a separate thread about using pre BA/BF BTR gearbox on BA/BF engines as this would be great for anyone who wants to do the conversion without using BA/BF gearbox. I wonder what sort of HP numbers if you kept this NA and used a E-GAS engine instead??? I've put the transmission build on the backburner for now, we'll see how the BA 93LE holds up with minor abuse haha. I'd like to know how an E-Gas engine would hold up with boost, even though it has the F6 internals the compression ratio compared to the NA engines is even higher still!! Wouldn't take much to get it boosting! Well, a bit more news. I had a crack at getting the heaters going and what a botch-up of a job that was. What was meant to be a couple of hor job (like we all know) turned into a complete day job. Nothing went right, the metal heater pipes i had made just dont 'work' and looks very half-a***. I'm going to get another cheap work bunkie to get around in and to do all this turbo stuff right, i might pull the whole engine out so i can get into everything a bit easier. |

Yeah, i'm on the hunt for another work bunky to get around in. When i do get another car, the engine in the Fairmont is coming out to get a spruce up and to have all the turbo stuff strapped to it. I might also get the engine bay painted too. All things i wanted to do before, it's just that i didn't have the time, patience or money to do it haha.
Fear not, drastic plans in the near future. |
