Wooo! Painting has been completed, went and had a look at it today and all i can say is that it is jaw droppingly good. Mind you, new paint always has that effect. Towtruck couldn't pick it up today, so will be done tomorrow morning.

Also tomorrow, engine is heading in to have the turbo oil return tapped into the sump and i have figured out what i'm doing with the heater pipes, so i'll have them made up too. Full steam ahead.

Pics up tomorrow!

Righto, pictures as promised, although a little belated. Spent all last night working on the engine, but apart from a couple of small things it's pretty much good to go. Pretty happy with the progress so far.

Thanks Smithy, have to work quick, only have a few days left of holidays, i want to get as much of the big stuff as i can.

Yes Laney, i know  . I just got to the point where i though "I can't be stuffed" and that was it lol. I'm not bothered by it anyway.

Anyway, i hate the new paint in the engine bay...i cant twirl spanners like they're going out of fashion anymore for fear of chipping the duco. I've never been so fearful in all my life haha.

I've run into a problem, where the coolant tank sits, the hose that goes in the bottom of it which goes to the radiator fouls on the compressor housing on the turbo, if i fit the hose behind it, then it ends up being less than an inch away from the exhaust housing. Not good.

I'm also unhappy with the way the outlet on the turbo is pointing upward, i might rotate the housing downward to where it used to be and run the intercooler piping underneath the z-link to the front of the car. If i do this, then i'll be able to retain the AU coolant bottle as the hose wont be pressed against the exhaust housing.

WOW! Pics looking good man!

That coolant bottle is going to be a bit of a pita by the looks of it. As well as the metal water pipe.

Probably should have painted the block, but after everything else is in there, you probably won't see any of it anyway.

Cheers

Nope that heater pipe is exactly how i wanted it. We chopped it into about seven different pieces to get the angles right haha. And from where it points to the inlet manifold i'll be able to adapt a BA rubber heater hose to fit around the fuel hoses. I sat next to the engine and looked at all my engine photos for a few hours nutting out the best way to do it haha.

As for the block, it would have taken aaaaages to get into all the small crevices and knowing my luck the paint i'd have used would have flaked and peeled lol, so i left it. Like you said, you can't really notice it with all the gear on it.

I've had a think about it, and i've decided i'm going to rotate the comp housing so it faces down again and i'm going to have the cooler piping going underneath the car.

Thanks man, yep hopefully not too far down the track i'll have some sort of plenum, i'd love one of the nizpro ones, but not the asking price, i think they go for about the $1300 mark! But, we'll see what comes up, i'll get the car going first lol.

Hey there, great work with the new motor and the engine bay freshen up. Really good update and I'm suprised that more guys haven't taken this mod path given that there these barra 6cyls are everywhere!

This is exactly what I want my station wagon engine bay to look like, but with a windsor of course. The lack of wires, looms is a great look. Unfortunately, you 6cyl boys have it easy there :x .

I'm thinking, when the current EF spec engine lets go/does a headgasket I will be throwing a barra in.
