You have to cut the K frame or cut the sump, trimming the fins doesnt give enough clearance on EF/EL K frames.

Yep you can grind the fins away if you have a boxcar, but I think its still a tight fit? Also I would not worry about the VCT engine. I wish I had just bought the HP engine, but they do cost a few hundred more.

When I get things together for it I will be converting back to a standard cam.

There is also a thread in the 6 cyl workshop that has a lot of info on the install.

Can I butt in again and tell everyone what I good time I had converting a 120,000k EL XR into an EF XR? The 1998 EL Xr's have so little K's on them compared the EF!!!!

Ah well, luck be with you Geoffy91...;

Mate you couldnt of asked for a better donor car being a Fairmont Ghia. Nice pick up :wink:. Is it the later model series 2 EF Ghia (1996) with the tickford running gear and that or is it an early series 1 EF Ghia?

EDIT: Guessing its a series 1 Ghia judging by the pics. Bloody good car though, should look good and go even better with all the stuff you'll be swapping into it.

i wish it was :(. just got standard drivetrain. not to worry as my mate is a diff builder so im putting in a very very tight rebuilt lsd soon. plus i had plans to rebuild engine anyway. still would have been nice for now though..
ah well. was too good to pass up for the price
