Hi

My first post here. I bought this today

Image

I've never had a Ford before (not as a daily) as I've always owned Holdens - so this is a big step for me. I know the VN series to the VX like the back of my hand, I figured it was time for a change and I've always liked the E series, since the EA boxcar came out :)

I also own a 1966 XP Falcon.

So now its time to learn about this EEC thing and get away from the good old 1962 circa V6.

The Mont is a Ghia spec, its got the premium sound thingo in it (two seperate DIN size things) with the DSP thingo, theres a sub in the rear tray, its got 230km on it, one owner, full books, serviced every 10000km, drives grouse as. Looking forward to a comfortable daily with AC (I have a grouchy VL Turbo at the moment (for sale if anyone is interested))

Anyway some more pics, I hope they work

Hey mate looks like brand new under the bonnet, but are you sure it a Fairlane? I ask because the onley pic of the outside you put up is of the bonnet and it has a standerd Fairmont grill.

The pic is a little small but it looks like its missing the factory Fairlane turning spot lights that light the corner when your turning into it.

Got any pics of the tail?

Cheers

Josh

So that would be a Fairmont Ghia, Fairlanes came out with woodgrain in the interior, shifter surround etc. EF Fairmont Ghias didnt come with woodgrain shifter surround afaik.

Maybe the title got mixed up.

Very clean car by the way!! Great base to start working from. Engine looks like it has been well maintained and kept clean so thats good

My NF Fairlane ghia does not have a woodgrain shifter surround. I think that was in the NL Ghia

I dont think its a ghia. It does not have the chrome fairmont gril or the ghia hood orament. granted it has premo sound but that was an option on fairmonts.

Dont get me wrong mate it looks like a nice car.

I dont know if the EF Fairmont Ghias came with chrome grills or the 'G" hood ornament, well i havent seen any chrome grill standard on the EF Ghia's apart from the little strip around the black inner part of the grill in the EF Series 2 Ghias and even that is a rare occurance. EL's came with Chrome grills though, and possibly the hood ornament. Also just noticed the chrome shifter stalk and leather shifter which Ghia's did get over normal Fairmonts. We'll just have to wait on 'psyolent' to let us all know what it is lol

Lol i have been watching your build thread closely mate, its coming along well, cant wait to see the manual conversion go in. If i could get a Fairlane/LTD in decent condition, i would buy one on the spot, love the look of them and the long limo like stance, not to mention the sexy grill haha.

For now i'll stick with the ol Monty, it goes hard

I'll also be watching this thread closely too and see how it transforms over time :)

Chrome grill and hood ornament, weren't on all ef ghia's and your correct in the ghia spec car only got a woodgrain shifter surround in el/nl
only df got it in the ef/nf range.
It's a fairmont ghia look at the shifter shaft in chrome and chrome shifter button.
plus find an ef that actually had premium sound optioned, hehe.
and yes no cornering lamps as someone metioned

Edit: I knew there was something screaming swb I couldn't put my finger on it, that cluster there's something, that's hard to change and pretty much wont be changed, who down specs all there looms etc. one thing to put a new font clip on worth of panels in an accident, another to do that.

(too excited with my new car)
EDIT: the mrs just asked WTF an NF is (fairlane). totally lost the f..king plot. sorry :|

i looked at an EF2 Fairmont Ghia (yes i got that bit right, triple checked it) today and it had chrome door handles, but mine doesnt. this is something i will add.

how hard is the shifter knob and handbrake surround/cover to remove as i want to renew/get the leather re-done on them (they are a wee bit worn after 230kms)

Shifter knob is easy, the shifter is screwed down and then nut at the bottom is screwed up to lock it in position (hope that makes sense lol). Just hold the shifter still so that it does turn while you loosen the nut at the base of the shifter - i think you have to loosen the nut turning it anti clockwise if i remember correctly. Then when you've loosened the nut just keep unscrewing the shifter and its off.

Good idea with the chrome handles, they really do change the look in the car, well they did in my boring Fairmont interior

Hi, and welcome to Fordmods.

For your first Ford, this is a nice way to start. And congrats on seeing the light and ditching your old VL Turbo.

My first recommendation is to go out and buy some sort of workshop manual. A Gregorys, Ellerys etc should be the most important tool in your toolbox, and will answer most of your questions re, "how do I do this" etc.

Have a read through a lot of the Garage threads to find out what mods are being done by other members, and then choose the ones you like.

BenJ

That tip that BenJ just mentioned about the workshop manual is gold. It definately comes in handy
