This is the up to date story of my 92 EB XR6.

My mum's partner was talking to his mate who said he had an EB for sale, and I was in need of a first car, so we went round to his place and had a look at the beast.

He was asking $1500.

(Yes, $1500 for an EBII XR6 4 speed with 158000ks on the clock).

So my mum's partner bought the car and I gradually paid it off with my casual Maccas income. I learnt to drive in the car and never fully realized the power of it until I got my P's, it was then, and looking on eBay and the Trading Post, that I realized how good a buy it was.

Here's what it looked like when I washed it for the first time...

When I got my P's I started spending a reasonable amount on the car. The first mod I did was a 3" K&N pod, which is still not in a box as I haven't found one that will fit it (apparently XG/XH boxes fit pods but I can't find any in wrecking).

The car was running great, and picked up a bit of power from the new intake. I had my first prang in it though and put a bit of a dent in the bonnet. Very lucky, went over a pole (lol) and it sliced my front bumper, and put a slight dent in the sump, but that could have ended up a lot worse.

A few months went past, my confidence in my driving increased and I decided, against what everyone was telling me (waste of money, you're a hoon, bla bla bla), to get the car converted to a T5. I rang around and got a few quotes, but there werent many places that did conversions in Adelaide, so I ended up having to drive to Lonsdale. The conversion cost me $1250, and it was some of the best money I have spent. It completely transformed the car, unleashed all of it's might and power.



The car was still going strong, and I decided the next upgrade would be the exhaust system. Looking around the for sale section I found a set of Pacemaker 4499's. Managed to pick them up for $200 (another long drive lol). Got them fitted and noticed another slight gain.

About a week later I also noticed a slight EXTREMELYANNOYINGLAWNMOWERSOUND coming from my engine bay.

So I took it to profix, who installed the headers, to re-weld it as I am not a confident welder.

A week later I got a 2.5" Redback system installed, for $340. This was an awesome buy, sounds great now.

I decided to start focusing on the audio side of things, and picked up a Cadence Z5000 for $100 from a mate. He also gave me a 15" 600W clarion sub. I bought a box for it and it now resides in my boot.

I then got onto some more exterior mods...

I tinted my tail lights using VHT Nite shades, and some 1200 and 2000 wet/dry.

Hooked up some neons for the boot and some ultra-white xenon headlights. No pics as yet.

Here's what it's looking like at the moment.

Bought some 12V Blue LEDS for the interior. But they are coming from china so are going to take the best part of 3 weeks to get here :evil:.

What do you guys think I should do next?? Both to the motor and the exterior/interior?

-lower the car on super super lows
- black stockies-keep the sleeper look going
-ef el door handles

a few cheapish mods depends on the budget you are on.

Yeah sounds good, I know I have a sleeper, have surprised a few commie drivers lol. And as for my budget, it has gone from a maccas minion's casual wage, to a maccas manager salary. (Doubled and then some)

well if stockiers are cop bait id find my set a nice set if svo wheels or the turboblades. nice tidy car my old man drives a ea brock falcon man that thing flys always had a soft spot for the ea-eb-ed's and think the xr6's are very under rated.

This is true. I beat my mate's dad's VE SV6 auto. Have kept up with an R33. Gen3's and pretty much any turbo eat me though. 5L Commies are do-able too.

I am gonna neaten up my boot setup. Next mods are gonna be blue LEDs in the interior lights (courtesy, center interior, glovebox). Was also gonna buy some of those white dials for the instrument cluster, and/or change the LEDs but the colour of the stock text will look like crap with blue shining through it.

Motorwise, I need to get a new fan belt installed (squeals on cold starts). Are these hard to do?


Might have a go at the EF/EL door handle mod that was mentioned.

Your XR6 is looking good. An excellent first car.

Have a look through some of the cars in the garage for ideas of what can be achieved in an EB or ED.

A few of us have put the complete EF/EL dash, console and door trims in. My Wagon is now an hybrid EB/NL LTD inside.

Also look through the tech documents section found by clicking the resources tab at the top of the page.

It's the first of the XR6's.........

For their era (and up to the ELII XR8), they were one of the quickest thing on the local block. They also out handled the pants of pretty much anything with the cast iron 8's over the front end and got far better economy than any of the 8's to boot. The motoring mags waxed lyrically about them till the sun went down and the purchasing public ate it up. Why would anyone say they were or are 'under rated'??

And as it's an orginal XR6, why would you want to go diminishing its value by stuffing around with it too much? If it's in reasonable condition, give it a really good detail, bring it up to as good a condition as you can and enjoy driving it. At the very least, keep all the necessary bits original so that you can de-boganise it when it comes time to sell it.

And blacked out stockies are just a terrible idea IMO. As for turbo blades..... they would have to be one of the WORST rim designs ever!!! (again IMO). The original rims are not too bad, or you could look at FTR's, AU II 17" XR8, or some late model FPV rims. I wouldn't get chromies or anything too showy either. Again, I just don't like them.

Clear side repeaters are a must!

Your car tho, so you should make it how you want it. Just don't ruin it forever, please.

Yeah i agree phil. I don't want to change it too much, I like the rims, I reckon the EB XR6s look sweet, mine has a few dents and scratches (some were there when I got it, some were me, first car.) but its in pretty good condo, driver's side seat has a tear. I couldnt justify selling it, I reckon they will become a classic. I'm considering gettting the body all fixed up with my christmas bonus, which if I do that there will be no selling it as I would be losing about $3000.

How much do you reckon someone would pay for it as it is now?

With these cars, it is not about the dollar value. It is about the value you get from driving it, and modifying it to suit your needs and wants.

Not all people recognise an early XR6 for what it is, and in reality, it is a GLi with a upgraded driveline.

I would look at adding Fairmont and Ghia interior parts, electric mod cons, and maybe a factory Sprint bodykit or similar.

I think that's a bit rich BenJ.

Suggesting that a Tickford enhanced XR6, is just a GLi with a tickled driveline (and lets not forget it's a fairly well sorted engine, GB and diff) is a bit rich. There is also the suspension, the seats, the momo wheel, the sports dash, the nicer trim, 15/16" alloys, the very popular boot kick spoiler etc.

It may not be a Porshce or a GT etc, but the EBII FalconS XR6 was the beginning of what has become one of the most recognisable name plates in Australian motoring these days. Everyone knows what they are and that's because of the sales success that comes from being a really great package and widely recognised as great value. Try suggesting a badge job would've brought that sort of recognition and you'll be laughed off the rostrum!! (IMO)

Have to agree tho that the Sprint kit just looks awesome on them, especially with the 16" rim option that was available on them. And I did the interior upgrade (power everything and TC) to an EBII XR8 Manual a few years back, and it was probably the best thing I did to the car. So much reward for me from that project.
