From his lax 60ft he SHOULDN'T get any better then a 14.7!!!! I've got two slips.... 60ft 2.178 / 2.178 660ft 9.258 / 9.274 123.09km / 122.62km T 14.352 / 14.380 155.7km / 155.04km Pretty consistent for a pretty average steerer. So why should you be able to get such a great time and not him???

He's all that and a bag'o'chips. Classic!!! Well spent all night playing with the ute last night. Re-done all the lifter pre-loads and am much happier with how they came up. Fitted up the new r/covers with the new rubber gaskets in which i had a nightmare finding before last night. Modified and installed the BBK AFPR. Basically just had to strip and rotate the top housing to move the position of the vacuum port which was intefering with the upper manifold. Will need to get a fuel pressure guage to fit onto the schrader valve to set fuel pressure. Then today i'll be bolting up the upper manifold and loosely mounting T/B and EGR to check on modifying to fit throttle cable. Fun, fun, fun

Yeah mate, some good and some not so good. The Ford Racing 70mm EGR spacer just became a PITA to get to fit nicely with allowing the throttle cable bracket to fit up in position, so i got a genuine Ford one for an AU XR8 off ebay brand new for 75 to my door. These have the blank EGR plates which IMO look alot neater, so i'll get that polished up and use it instead of the US one. It has also been taken out to 70mm which saves me having to do it. Spent this morning fitting the AEM afr guage and running all the wiring, ready to have the bung welded into the exhaust and sensor fitted. It really is a nice piece of gear. Used an autometer guage pod to mount it under the ashtray. Gives a nice touch to the interior. Heres a quick pic, not the best but you get the idea. Really needs to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated. Will try and get a better pic when i get the chance.

My ute did lousy 2.1-2.2ish 60ft's just like most cars with street tyres but I still managed a 12.9! |

Cheers Grant. Thanks mate, hoping to get back out there soon and try and better it. Just about to go out to the shed now and re-do all the pre-loads, crappy weather over here atm, not the kind of weather i wanna be out in the garage with, but oh well wanna get it over and done with.

Getting lifter preloads wrong can be a costly mistake. Wiping cam lobes, pitting lifters, damaging lifter valving causing excessive bleed down. Anyhow sounds like its ran solid which is no good.
I've done it before (incorrect pre-load) and it usually ends up being terminal. GOOD LUCK |

I think if it had of been "running solid" it would have been adjusted too far, excessive pre-load. But i had actually not given them enough, leaving insufficient pre-load. Have re-done them all again tonight, guided through it by someone with experience with them. Felt much better, by the way he described how to do it, it is plain obvious that i hadn't given them enough last time. Just gotta wait for two new explorer upper plenum gaskets then it can go all back together and give it another shot. Fingers crossed.
