I didn't think the XR models had speed limiters, or was it just the sedans that go that privelage??

My XR doesnt have a speed limiter.
I even have in my logbook that the previous owner who i bought the car off, complained that there was a vibration in the rear at 220kmph down Stuart Hwy! I'd be thinking maybe because of the suspension is why the utes got limited?

Yep all XR sedans had the speed limiter deleted with the alloy tailshafts. Utes and wagons kept the speed limiter due to the slightly longer length it the tailshaft but are still all alloy.

I think that's what's made the difference for me too! I Changed the intake pipe the day before the service which I thought made all the difference.

Are you guys talking about the pipe from the airbox to the throttle body? Does it make that much difference?

Yeah i think the modified airbox made the most difference, but yeah the pipe would help also.

Yeah i think the modified airbox made the most difference, but yeah the pipe would help also. When I did the airbox with the stock intake pipe I didn't notice too much. But when I changed the intake pipe out it seemed to make a huge difference. Unless it WAS the new mechanic going over it and inadvertantly put something back into place properly. Either way, I reckon as far as bang-for-your-buck goes, you can't beat it. $45 for a 60 degree bend cut to size on the spot and about another $25 for the silicone pieces and clamps. Cutting a hole in the airbox won't cost you bugger all, so for $70 or thereabouts you'll have the cheapest noticable mod available, in my opinion anyways!

Scaffy i think it'd be more noticeable on combo's like ours which are really demanding more air and are being strangled by the factory intake.
On something like Timmeh's i think a decent sized snorkle and a 3" stainless intake pipe and a K&N filter would do the job well while maintaining std airbox.

{USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: if the tunes still the same what have you changed to score an extra 30 at the rears? surely it wouldnt gain that much just from running in and loosening up? -mitch Firstly, this time we managed to get another 200rpm out of it before we hit the speed limiter which helped slightly. But since the orignal tune i have changed or fixed the following. -Went from 65mm to 70mm T/B and EGR spacer. -Modified airbox and fitted 3"intake pipe -Fitted AFPR with guage -Went from .75mm gapped plugs to new ones gapped to 1.1mm -Fixed extractor leaks -Went from shocking 2 1/4" cats to the X-Force Metal 2.5" ones (750cfm) -Went from Eagle 9mm leads to MSD 8.5mm ones Pretty sure thats it. Biggest difference i noticed was when i modified the airbox and intake pipe. Couldnt beleive the difference. When i got the first tune i was running completely std snorkle, airbox and piping thats a big improvement for those changes.. very impressed -mitch

I can vouch for this it certainly feels nice and strong from the driver's seat. I'd be happy with that up the front of my old bus.

Well i couldnt beat the 13.6 but i matched it 4 times over. Best time of the night was a 13.653@100.78mph with a 2.196 60ft. Was the second run of the night at 6.30pm, ambient temp was just under 30deg and track temp was up at 43deg. I believe this is what was killing my MPH as later into the night i was hitting 102mph on my 13.6 runs and the last run of the night i hit 103.8mph.
60ft's have improved. Launching right at peak torque (approx 4000rpm) and slipping the clutch. Best time for the night was 2.14 which sent me on my way to a 13.6@102mph. Was quite suprised how well the cheapo rear tyres held up, although i was getting abit of axle tramp which ive never had before and it was causing it to jump out of gear. I think it hasnt got too much more in it as its current combo as far as driveline goes. Will head back down later on in the next two months when it gets colder and i have NO doubt it will run a 13.5, but i think that'll be it. Untill i change diff gears and get the TKO so i can run MT's and launch abit harder. Overall i was happy in the result for the night. I didnt go backwards any and was alot hotter than the last 13.6 i ran back in october, so with the circumstances it wasnt a bad effort. It still shocked a few of those LS1-2 drivers
