All these AFR headed motors getting awesome results are giving me evil thoughts!

Yeah should give good results.
Terry just done another XH V8 S ute with a set of extremely ported GT40P's, Explorer manifold, custom grind crow cam(approx .550" lift), 70mm T/B, 70mm MAF, 24lb's, Tweecer running through a very tired auto. Put out 237rwhp, gettin auto built up now with a bigger stall and are hoping for much better results.
He's looking forward to gettin mine up n running so can compare the two.

Also the sprint would love a set of AFR's mate, you know it.

nah it must of been your old ute..
How much did u get for the manifold btw?

Yeah i like that style of plates, nice n clean, not too full on.

Paid $660inc postage to me from Sydney i think, and sold it for $650inc postage to melbourne, so only lost out $10 so not bad really.

Also terry reccomended while the sump etc is to spin in some new crank bearings providing the crank journals measure up ok, what are your thoughts on this?

Will keep posted.[/quote]

I would put new crank and cam bearings in,a balance of the rotating assembly wouldnt hurt either.Could get new pistons and rings with different pin height to jump compression up a bit.Use old lifters and chiptorque or tweecer for the tune.

as a gt40p vs afr comparison yes.. but as a yardstick for you, i made 260rwhp untuned with .512 of cam lift and 165s. combo otherwise the same. once exhaust and tune done hopin to get about 300

check out my story-

That would be BOTTLEDUP on here (and other sites). Very helpful. Good bloke & knows his stuff.

Good to see some other 8s getting quicker. Soon I'll be the one who has to catch up.

-AFR 165cc Alloy heads
-Crane 2040 or FMS F303 cam
-Yella Terra Stealth 1.6 Adj R/rockers
-Rollmaster Premium timing chain kit
-Powerbond Street Balancer
-ARP Head stud kit
-Gaskets - Head, Inlet, exhaust, timing cover, water pump, sump, rocker cover, t/b etc.
-Seals - Front timing cover/crank, rear main
-Core plug kit
-Mellings oil pump
-8 x EV1 to EV6 injector adapters
-Tweecer or capa eliminator + tuning

Alright combo will be as above but with the AFR 165 p/n1399 heads and Yella Terra Platinum roller rockers but still unsure wether to go 1.6 or 1.7 in regards to piston valve clearance with the 2040 with .498" lift and the smaller 58cc chambers.

Anyway with the above combo do you guys think i should stick with the 3.45 diff gears or go to a 3.73 with the T5?

Just a quick question: wouldn't AFR165's allow for more lift than the 2040 cam can deliver?

Becareful of the Mellings oil pump. They usually still have casting sand in them, new from the box. So, pull it to bits and clean it out, and drill the oil feed hole out to 13mm, and smooth out the corners inside. It all helps.

Coz Dave can do them for $2300, and also they have the smaller 58cc combustion chamber. They do not have the EGR port but that would have got blocked off anyway.

The 1399's and platinums work out to almost exactly same price as 1472's and street terra rockers.

But yeah for that price i couldnt complain.
