Nah mate to be honest i wasnt. Was going for a hard change into 3rd when it let go on me. Now before everyone tells me "You've got to be careful of 3rd in the T5's", I know, but it was eventually going to happen. Just lucky it happened around the corner from my place and not at the 'Plex on wednesday night, so i managed to slowly drive home in 2nd.

The box i have here to go in it is out of a 96 EL XR8 with 130,000 on the clock. This should get me by untill im ready to buy the TKO.
At this stage im still planning for another run at the strip this Wednesday.

Does your mate have a shortened shift lever Jeff? If so, is he selling it seperate?

Spewing the 'box let go on you. We'll just pretend that I never said anything above! Hahaha... A bit of motivation now for you to get that TKO in!

I just rebuilt my T5 and I can see where U guys are coming from. The gear rumble when I'm up my beast is quite pronounced, thats in third!!! Damn but the T5 is so light when compared to the other available units.

No worries dude. Hey, I noticed you may be acquiring another set of headers. Are they for your ute or for someone else?

Its Back!!!!

Got the gearbox swap done today. The EL XR8 box went straight in, but i used my rear crossmember and rubber shock mount as the EL one had a nasty looking sideways modification to the crossmember  . Swapped the Billet short shifter over too, other than that it was a straight swap. Input shaft play was minimum compared to the T5 that just came out, really shows in the smoothness of gear changes and engaging into 1st is much better. Also the synchro into 2nd gear is sweet, with the old box grinding into 2nd on quick changes at high revs was impossible to avoid.
Also re-routed the clutch cable around engine mount, seemed to make the clutch travel abit smoother, the clutch fork and pivot on the this box may also be aiding the clutch pedal feel as it was alot tighter rather than the sloppy one in the old box which used to occasionally rattle at idle.
Overall really happy with the outcome, for the $250 i paid for the box i cant complain, its actually a much nicer box than what was in mine when i got it, just got to see how long this one holds up.
While doing the job the exhaust obviously had to come off, that revealed a few exhaust leaks at a couple of flanges, that was all repaired when it went back together so that might do away with a little tick that was audible when driving next to kurbs etc. Also re-polished the tailpipes while they were off.
So with some nice weather on Wednesday i'll be able to hit the track again.
Got a pair of Wanli 225/50/16's fitted to the FTR's today. Going to try the 16's at the track see if it makes a difference. Will probly leave pressure around 30psi. Will also be running FTR's on the front too.

Big night out at the 'Plex tonight. Was going there pretty confident to beat the 13.6@104mph, nice cold weather @ 18*c, track temp @ 23*c. Put on all the 16" FTR's equipped with Wanli 225/50/16's @30psi in the rear, nothing else changed to the car bar the Crane HI-6S and coil.

First run out of the box was 13.57@105.6 with 2.2160ft. The rest are as follows.

13.38@106.1mph with 2.14 60ft. F**k happy at this point!!!

13.52@105.3mph with 2.12 60ft.

14.1@104.1mph with 2.26 60ft. Spun up at the end of first then big fishies up the track in 2nd  !!!

13.34@106.1mph with 2.11 60ft. Consistentcy was coming.

13.46@105.8mph with 2.15 60ft. Still hanging in.

13.50@105.5mph with 2.19 60ft. .....................

Then last run of the night,

13.34@105.7mph with a best 60ft ever of 2.08. Consistency is there.

Very pleased with the night. Dropped .3 off the ET and 2mph trap speed and also got 60ft down .1-.2 to the lowest 0f 2.0sec. I never expected that at all, i went down there looking for 13.5's with a 13.4 in the back of my mind, but do put down 3 passes of 13.3 is unreal. Really happy to how the utes performing, real credit to those who are responsible for the whole thing. Now just to make a few suspension and tyre changes and aim for a some 12.99's ;)
