Hey guys we have just picked up a 1995 model XG panelvan. Bit rough around the edges, not too bad in the rust department but had been in a prang on the back left hand side. Anyway as all good pano drivers know before you do the outside you start inside ;)

id love to have a pano, chuck a bed in the back n sleep anywhere no worries haha.
bit hard with a kid though haha

Yeah thanks mate, I also have a venom red BA xr6 and an XF ute but needed a new body shape for a project haha.

Will finish off the interior then it will be onto the body work and then ill need some decent power to move the 10 ton of timber in the boot ha.

Body will get a new respray of a dark metallic purple with lightning airbrushing in typical panelvan styling.
Im also trying to chase some old school bubble windows for the side and rear but if i cant find any ill either make my own perspex ones or weld up the holes completely and go windowless.

Engine wise ill probably do the same as my old ED, shaved head, au gasket, crow cam stage 3, tune, pacey extractors, custom dual exhaust etc etc.

Have 2 inch lowering bloack for the rear and lowered front springs from my ute, just a bit worried i might be too low on the front but ill cross that hurdle when i get to it
Also have a 3:4.5 LSD which will find its home behind a chrome diff housing

that ute looks tough
not to be biased but if you dont wanna get a new colour mixed, i reckon the BA phantom purple (my car colour :wink: ) would suit it nicely
id go windowless personally, bit more canvas for the airbrushing haha

sounds like itll go alright when its done, will sound good at the very least haha

cant wait to see it lowered haha. what wheels you gunna go for?

I think i'm actually going to go a little bit darker...
I had two ideas for paint either the one I said or the other way is dynamic white with the two blue cobra stripes. but i chose the purple because im not sure the cobra would look any good on anything other then an XA/B/C

Windowless would be the go i reckon. Makes doing the interior a bit easier without having to cut out the plywood for windows etc. and yeah like you said better canvas for the airbrushing.

Lowered vans do look sweet :D

Wheels I have no idea about, Am torn between 19' chromies for more of a show look and 15inch dragways for tough muscle look, absolutely no idea though. One thing at a time so interior first :)

id go the purple too. theres none around haha
i reckon with wheel a set of 15 inch dragways or convo pros would be better
or even just some polished 12 slotters

but thats my personal opinion haha

yeah i was looking at centerline hot rod series streeters but i can't find any dealers for centerline wheels in wa :s

Bit of an update:
I've mounted the brackets for the arch covers and then last night the stupid a** alternator decided to s**t the tin.
So its off to coventries this morning to see what i can get. I'm hoping they got some 120amp bosch ones in stock.

The alternator which was on it was a mitsubishi brand one.... explains why it was a P.O.S

Hey another bit of an update:
Had the alternator die on me on Monday. So i went down and bought an 85amp bosch alternator to replace the worn out pos mitsubishi one. When searching for it in the catalogue just pick up the EB one - same motor. It has the wrong plug in the back BUT it does come with an adaptor plug for the two side by side pins found in XG's

A few quick tips when working on an XG

1. remove battery and battery box
2. unbolt the two bolts holding the power steering bracket to the block
3. remove the nut holding the power steering pump to the bracket
4. remove belt from power steering pump and sit the pump in the battery space

This will give you much more room to work especially if you were as unlucky as me with ceased bolts and other dramas. Even then its still a tight fit.

Anyone who knows anything about alternators will know the general mechanics is one pivot bolt and one tensioner bolt. Well my pivot bolt was ceased - pain in the a**!

I did however finally get it. You wont be able to get it from where it is through the top so you do have to get it out by lowering it through to the ground. Exactly the same when you go to put the new one in. Place it on the ground somewhere you will be able to reach through from the top to pull it into position.

One thing i would reccomend doing though is checking that the pivot bolt actually will do the job... I just got the new alternator in position and found that the pivot bolt instead of sliding through to the back hole and then doing up actually had to thread through the first hole all the way through to the back one.

This took forever!!! once it got through to the back hole it did up to a certain position and wouldnt do up any more, i could see that it wasnt even close to being done up but it wouldnt go any further. If i was smart i would have checked it first and then drilled out the first hole so it would of been a hell of a lot easier.


Never mind, what i did end up doing though is putting a nut on the back end so as i was doing it up it was also pulling it through. Either way its tight as buggery now with new belts and also new radiator hoses (which is another b**ch of a job in the XG's with absolutely no room to move - especially on bottom radiator hose!!) Anyway hope i helped someone out with this. Here is something a flung together in paint in case you cant really understand what i was on about

Ute looks tough . Looks similar to mad max's black xb interceptor. What's in the ute? 6 or 8

Hey thanks mate, mad max was definitely the inspiration for the xf. She is only a 6. But a pretty mean 6. Will be even better once I rebuild it
