yeah a clean bay looks awesome, but unfortunately some of it will be taken up by the airbox etc again. i might go all out and make up a airbox section and get a 3" intake made up

took a trip to wacol wreckers today with samftr and matt, had agreat time and walked away with pretty much everything i needed.

just need fairlane carpet and rear door trims to suit power windows

i got a fairmont ghia bodyloom to suit rear power windows, the rear door looms, EL futura dash (complete) and a few bits for my laser.

in total with all my parts and same bits it came to 80 as we couldnt carry it all with one person (all you can carry $49) so cost an extra #30 for the dash. so we were happy with that.

if i can be stuffed tomorrow ill run the body loom and fit the dash all ready to go. for now im not going to run carpet, ill just wait till i find some or buy new

i was going to take the cappa dash and pieces which were already removed from the car nicknamed "veronica" which is the same car we got the body loom from, but once we put it on the ground and inspected we noticed some nice person snapped the fusebox section. so i settled for grey.

not long to go now, id say 2 weeks and it should be running. would be sooner but i start work wednesday and need to get the laser running at the same time

Wow, what a haul! I wish the nick a part closest to me would have a day like that every so often. They usually have specials like cyl heads for $40 & so on, but not all you can carry.

Cheers

yeah, this place does it once a month to get rid of old stock before new stock arrives. there was a genuine XR6 wagon there (EF) but all the XR bits were gone. also 2 other XR6's, there was only 2 fairlanes a NA and a NC I V8

2 cars with cappa interior, but id need to change too much so ill just buy a car with cappa interior later on down the track and maybe fit climate control, but for now i cant be stuffed lol, just want it running again

Check out the pickles auctions, i think they are at acacia ridge. I buy car's from the Tullamarine pickles auctions when i need a fair few parts. It's where i've picked up my bombs to strip & the Xr8's. :D

Cheers

finally some good progress. couldnt be stuffed waiting for carpet and the other positive cable so i fitted up the body loom and dash.

turns out the difference between EF and EL dash looms is 1 plug. so i had to swap the looms over, but easily done

apart from this progress i fitted the new fuel pump to my laser and got it running, until a belt flipped.

fitted the battery box to the boot

i also fitted up the vac lines etc for the engine, and fitted up the over flow tank.

cheers. so far i have had to cut 1 plug to make it all fit, and that was the fuel door popper. i might have to do a few more for the roof lighting but im not overly fussed about it.

i could end up picking up the other power cable tomorrow if i have enough left over after the belts plugs etc for the laser (as it will be the daily it gets priority)

That tends to be the way, but it's not so bad having a fall back car if the daily breaks down. That's why i like having the mighty boy around, a cheap run around if required, not a bad parts or supplies gopher either, when you don't need huge quantities of things. It really needs a new radiator to suit the bigger engine & to rebuild the correct gearbox for it as well, but funds are lacking so the daily get's the money spent on it. The mighty boy runs with what it has, just need to be mindful of them.

Cheers

yeah, well i didnt intend to work on the laser today, i just wanted to hook up the fuel pump to see if it would work, and it didnt, at this point a mate walked through the gate, i asked him to check the pump, i thought it would be the relay, of which i picked up a spare at the wreckers which i couldnt find so i just put the relay back in, then we were checking the gas system to see if it was working, and turned the key and the fuel started coming out of the fuel line (we had it off to see if there was fuel) so we plugged it back in and within 5 minutes it was running. to get it to run we used some silicone spray direct into the TB, but after a few minutes realized that it was set to LPG not fuel lol

(starts on fuel then switches to LPG itself) so that explained why the fuel was pouring out. but all seemed good. a bit of rust in the exhaust, and scored a full bodykit tonight for $200 :D but will be some time before its fitted.

i might start a quick build thread on it

Hey Huggie.

You just gotta love the EF dash in the lane. The later dashes really make a huge improvement to the boxcars.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

2 motors down.. 1 to go.

im soo over bloody motors!!!! first one that was in the car is f**k, then pull the head off the one today which ran fine but had slight oil leakage and well ill let the pics show

Image
Image

no hone marks left, rust, pitting, glazing, the front cyl has been overheated something shocking. im suprized this motor was even running without smoke for col when he had it.

luckily we kept the EF motor from the rolled falcon. so we stripped the head off that and the bottom end seems good.. so im going to piece together a motor from all 3 and hopefully will be dropped in as planned on saturday.

That engine looks like a mess down low, you poor bugger! I opened up a ford OHC I6 on a EB with a slightly blown head gaskit & there was still hone marks in the bores, no major carbon build up at all. Just a minor head gaskit leak. Engine had 285,000 if odometer was correct, bottom end wouldn't have been more than 100,000 old i reckon, to still have hone marks in it.

Cheers

yeah i have no idea on this bottom end ill be using. im just hoping i dont run into issues since the car was a write off, so im hoping they dont stop the motors from being used.

tempted to keep the stuffed bottom end and bore it out and put in the oversized pistons from ACL along with the race series kit.. hmm i dunno any more. just getting over the s**t.
