Bloody he'll who's project is this anyway? Do it the way you want mate. I am so tired of watching the flaming by people who think it should be done some other way
There are so many half assed facts here and opinions. Do it your way and be happy

It really is all in the maths... it costs you roughly $75 to get to Roughly 500 Ks
with gas it's roughly $32 to get ROUGHLY 300 Ks so you're travelling an extra 100 ks for ROUGHLY the same $$
say you fill up once a week.. over the year.. your GF will have travelled 5000 more Ks than you or would have saved ROUGHLY $750
Not bad.

Still doesnt cover the rego, insurance and maintenance costs of the 2nd car though does it.

The gearbox, full exhaust, ECU, injectors can all be done later on. The other s**t would cost less than $350 + rwc+ rego + insurance + whatever you spend fixing it.

I get 550kms to a tank in the AU and the GF only gets 300 - 350 on gas in her stock AU. I cbf doing the maths but I doubt the difference over a year is more than the cost of rego and insurance which would be $1000+. Depending on the amount of kms of course.

How many K's do you do?

current gearbox is leaking from somewhere, wasnt before but is now, does need full exhaust considering there is nothing under the car what so ever apart from sump pipe, ECU is needed to pass emissions.

i dont do alot of driving but if i can just fill up once a month it will alot better then having to buy fuel weekly like i am at the moment. the car im borrowing to get to work gets returned tonight so buying a cheap daily to get on the road now is a much better option then walking 4 hours to work each day and spending the cash on the fairlane. as i said from the start im taking my time and doing it right. if i can save money using this daily then thats more i can spend on a built motor

and 750 bucks a year is well worth the price. within a year the LTD would have pretty much paid for itself in fuel savings alone

but the fairlane isnt rego'd at the moment so im not loosing any money and if i sell the LTD for more the 350 bucks when its time for the fairlane to get rego then im on top.. and it gives me reliable transport until then.

look at nut's fairlane, its been on the road how long and its gone through 3 motors??? im not prepared to take that risk on this motor, id prefer to know it can handle what im going to give it

If you only plan to fill up once a month then you are even less likely to recoup the costs. :|

Good luck with it all anyway. Hopefully we see it finished soon.

The figures are flawed though. I used to get 350km a tank but only if I drove with my foot on the floor all the time. Taking it easy means over 450. Now plug this back into your mileage
On LPG your not scared of the amount of fuel you use leaving the lights or towing or visiting people
As a comparative figure for highway usemy eb managed 680km more than once on LPG

That way the numbers stack up

The figures arent flawed. My driving style is the same for both examples I gave above. If I drove both slower the mileage for both would be better, not just the LPG vehicle. :?

well im thinking a full tank of LPG plus a full tank of fuel should last me a month or atleast 3 weeks too and from work. but im planning on more driving, trips out with the family and a holiday down to nsw some time next year,

i do see where your coming from dan but at the moment i just dont have the funds to finish the fairlane to a point of where it can get rego. the exhaust alone is going to cost more then the LTD will cost to get rego. if i wasnt desperate for a daily i would have just gotten the fairlane done, but with the laser catching on fire and now not starting and my brother asking for his back tonight i have no choice but to get the LTD on the road otherwise i wont have a roof over my head. i SHOULD have the LTD on the road hopefully next week

I dunno about you Huggie, but I personally save a fair bit on LPG. I don't do as many kms right now, but a saving is a saving, and not having a car to drive around really blows.

Better to have a car on LPG than no car at all, and I guess the Laser wouldn't have been an easy / cheap or even worthwhile repair?

Cheers

laser wise the only motor i could find was a 1.8 EFI for 400 plus 80 delivery and that requires a new fuel tank lines ECU wiring etc just to run, aswell as a new gearbox CV's and so forth. and seeing as tho it wasnt my car (was given to my brothers last christmas to learn to drive in i have to still pay for repairs, but i have found a laser local for 200, already 1.8 EFI but even still will cost just as much as the LTD to register.

the LTD should be pretty good on fuel, i only drive 20 mins too and from work but im not planning to stay in this job much longer, so if i have to travel into brisbane or southside each day im looking at 1-1.5 hours driving each day, my dad works on the southside and goes through 200 bucks a week in fuel so at that distance lpg would surely pay for itself

Hell yeah, for that distance your LPG will save you heaps, esp if you can have the cruise control on for most of the way!

My EB , out on the fwy, I can get down to 8/100 a lot of the time, no matter which fuel I'm on. And 8 on LPG is a lot cheaper than 8 on Petrol! I did a trip to Bendigo the other day, and managed to average 7.5/100 on petrol, just changed some ignition parts. That's exactly what the books says I should get out on the open road, not bad for a 17 year old 4.0! (manual with cruise control)

Cheers
