I had an XF for my first car. Its the only car that hasn't given me mechanical issues. If you don't need any extra power and don't mind the look at size of the XF they are great. Get a 6cyl on LPG and you won't look back. You should get a nice Ghia or something for under $2000 easily. The best part I found was being able to very comfortably sit 3 adults in the back for long trips.

I too had an XF for my first car.
4.1 manual. Ex cop pack. Was a MUCH better car than the VP Commodore that replaced it. No Ford biased. No s**t. I trusted that XF with my life. The Commodore was a horrid, snap oversteer, rough as guts bag of s**t! The only redeeming featuring was that it had the best manual shift of any manual vehicle I've driven to date. As far as first cars go, you can't go wrong with an XF. Only the lack of power steering let it down...then again, it was amusing using 8 turns to negotiate the town round abouts. As for comparing an XF to en EF/EL - there is no comparison mate... Cheers, Gary. |

XF all the way. EF/L base models are s**t. if you get a EF/L high series it'll cost you a bit.
Get a XF Fairmont / Ghia 6 cyl auto on LPG. they are a comfy cruiser

EF/EL Fairmont/Fairmont Ghia's are not that bad.
I think i read in another thread you have 4g to spend? If tahts the case you can get your self an EF Fairmont Ghia or even an EL Fairmont (if your lucky) They look alot better than XF's and if you treat the car right and service it every couple of months it wont give you any trouble. But dont get a base model...there s**t. Good Luck finding the right car mate. |

BMACFORD#9 wrote: can sumone plz help coz i mite be gettin a XF or is a EF-EL better? For a first car, an XF is a good choice, stone age mechanicals mean they're piss easy to work on, parts are cheap as, and you should be able to pick up a good one for well under what an EF or EL is worth.
plz help thnx Yes, of course an EF or EL would be better, but it will cost you more, XF would be the better choice for a first car in my opinion. But do you really NEED a big thirsty falcon for a first car with fuel prices the way they are? I'd be looking at something cheaper to run, unless you're considering a falcon on LPG... |

My First Car was a XF panel van
good old 3 on the tree manual loved the car, best cruiser ever, so comfy, and alot of room and as people have said, parts are cheaper and theres more of at the wreckers so its cheaper to repair if needed |

Sorry i completly disagree with you there. I bet you for the amount of money my car has cost me all up ( not to mention how much i have learnt about the car) My "s**t" Gli would walk all over yours. If you want a good reliable car, thats cheap, and something you will have fun working on get an ef Gli. I havent had a single problem with mine and its been a blast doing it up. All up its cost me about 8g. And now ive gotten to the point that i really cant do too much more to it. Hope that helps

Keep in mind that if it's the first car, on the new P plate laws, it can't be improved, so forget extractors etc.

can someone tell me why the EF/EL base models are s**t??. You could pick up decent EF/EL for $5000 and it would s**t all over they XF, and would be heaps better on fuel.
