Yeah XR headlights will probably be a choice, I've been looking out for a set since I first got the car I want the ones that are separate to the bumper (i'm pretty sure they are like that standard yes?)
I've seen a car with white contact over the headlight glass with holes cut in it to look like them, I had thought of that at one stage but seeing it on that car it just didn't look that good close up. I'll have a scour through the sale threads, cheers!

I'll keep an eye out up here for a set if you want Jake....
I'd say the factory ones are gonna bring a fair price but you can also buy them aftermarket.... Ive seen em' advertised in the Parts Trader magazines if thats any help.... |

Yeah there are a few ways I've looked. New, second hand, aftermarket. All want a decent price for them. I can understand that though I spose, they are "rare" so to speak.
There's some out there though, I'll find em eventually! Haha.

Hey all, latest update now!
Fitted up the shifter yesterday. As you can see, I took on the BRILLIANT! Idea of (I'm pretty sure it was) BenJ of putting the 2 holes above the bolt holes. This helped no end in both removal of the original and the fitting of the new studs. All went smoothly, a bit of grease in the shifter bush and the bottom of the shaft to go in the selector cup. Loctite blue for all bolts. I found I had to place the shifter housing then put the studs through to have enoug room for the housing to slide in. Took it for a spin and WOW! it was seriously short!, I also put in the heavier springs, I found it a lot nicer with the exact description of a "straight push" from 2nd-3rd Possibly my favourite mod, such a pity it gets hidden away. Might fit a custom Perspex surround... Changed the oil as well, that looked pretty good I was happy about. Found the other pic somwhere, it may have been on here so sorry if it was yours (although it looks pretty "public") I think I've found my paint job... What do youse think? Cheers for watching. Jacob.

Great colour choice mate....looks kinda like the old cobalt blue from around 93' or so....
Or maybe the Shockwave blue of my old BA XR8......I reckon it'll look awesome with the dark grey lower section..... regarding the shifter......did the same to my BF 6 speed.....one of the best mods Ive done |

Yeah, I'm thinking Cobalt Blue. If it is the colour I'm thinking of it has a nice purple shade to it when the suns reflecting the right way.
I had a vc commodore an it had that colour and I'm sure it was Cobalt Blue. And a nice dark charcoal maybe semi gloss base should look sweet. Got a shifter too, sweet. They are pretty cool. I fiddled with mine so set it about an inch to the right, feels a bit more comfortable to reach for now.

Just a bit of an update.
No new mods yet, just enjoying the shifter, gotta love that 2-3 shift! A couple of things i've noticed though. I recently did the head gasket and oiled up with GTX 2 20-50. But in the mornings there's starting to get about a 2 second knock until the oil gets up when it's cold. I did use magnatec for a while and it slowed it right down. Also when I do start it the revs got straight up to 1500 or so, and a little more when I select a gear, it will rev like this untill the engine warms a little. when I did the gearbox oil change I noticed engine oil on the gearbox, along the lowest point. I'm gonna guess that the rear main bearing is goin/gone? It is using a little more oil too with this GTX 2. And a real interesting one, every now and then, more often when the cars warmed up an I'm cruising on 60 coming up to a corner or red light, when I hit the clutch the car dies. I watch the revs and they drop to the usual 900 for a split second and then the lights flash maybe once and it dies. I usually clutch it and roll startthe sngine agaig and it comes straight back alive and idles fine. It's strange to me, seems linked to the clutch, maybe the loom to the box? Im planning a new engine/rebuild depending on the inside condition of mine, I'm thinking it will probably be easier to build a motor up then do a weekend swap to save time off the road. Basic idea for now is either a ef/el hybrid or possibly AU block and head. Keep serpentine belt and do BBM swap, new accessories, EL GT snorkel or a pod customized in te airbox, I'd do the sump chop if it was an AU block. I've asked about it on another thread, but Im looking for info on the computer side of things wether I can run my EA one an modify or if I'll have to find a EF EL manual one, wich may be a big budget killer. Any ideas on the problems there people or even suggestions for the engine? (feels good knowing no ones gonna say "yeah..it's a ford!" LOL!!)

Is it a lower end or top end knock? Im thinking lifters......they are a pain in these motors, but better than a main bearing I guess.. Also when I do start it the revs got straight up to 1500 or so, and a little more when I select a gear, it will rev like this untill the engine warms a little. Pretty normal I think,....computer knows the engine is cold, so up's the idle so it doesn't stall. when I did the gearbox oil change I noticed engine oil on the gearbox, along the lowest point. I'm gonna guess that the rear main bearing is goin/gone? It is using a little more oil too with this GTX 2. Probably a rear main seal mate....there not expensive, but you do have to drop the box to replace it....ugh. Interesting.....has it always done this since you converted it to manual? Im planning a new engine/rebuild depending on the inside condition of mine, I'm thinking it will probably be easier to build a motor up then do a weekend swap to save time off the road. Any ideas on the problems there people or even suggestions for the engine? You just know that I'm gonna'say...."save up fo an XR6 Turbo engine mate  (feels good knowing no ones gonna say "yeah..it's a ford!" LOL!!) |

Hey Reg.
How's things? 1) there probably is a little lifter tick as standard ford haha, but the knock is definately bottom end. Yeah, I'm thinking bottom end bearing may be going. That's what the engine ideas are for, in case it is. 2) yeah probably is the computer. It has a new IAT sensor so it's probably not an issue. 3) i reckon rear main is going, front and rear main the only ones I haven't replaced yet, I was gonna do it when I first converted it. 4) this problem is a recent one. I'm thinking (and hoping not) it may be related to the accident, cos Im pretty sure it didn't do it before that. 5) yeah I was thinking of buying somthin new. But I love working on this one too much haha. I priced a conversion average for a DOHC but waaay too much work an money. Hopefully the bottom knok dosnt get worse before I get another engine, although they are pretty tough motors.

i dont like the falcon front at all. the best thing about the fairlanes are the length and the agressive fronts. the EA front makes it look like a baby

Hey huggie, good to see you here.
I've had a couple of other people say the same. It dose kill the fairlane look and they do have looong noses, especially when lowered! In Pirie there's a million of em (fairlanes/LTD) I have been thinking if I find a cheap one I may change it back. My reckoning doin it was that I like the sedans, but love the extra room inside, and the luxury. But I'll see if I can't find a kit too. Thanks for the input man. How's the turbo goin? I'll have a look..

Have you checked under the mainifold where the dip stick is for the engine leak, could be leaking from there or its a oil pressure switch leak or it could be either from the timing case,
Bottom end knock, Can you hear it knock while your driving or reving it, and also does it sound similar to this http://s649.photobucket.com/albums/uu21 ... eo0017.mp4
