Yep the E plates are gone haha.
I had a series 1 5.0 AU Fairmont years ago and miss it heaps but the new cars make up for it.
Had a pleasant surprise today while putting the new wheels on. I found that the Ghia is fitted with an LSD. CHecked it on etis and it was factory ordered.
So its IRS , LSD with traction control. Not too bad.

Indeed it was. Results are not too shabby neither!

Well I did some searching around and by some form of a*** luck found a BF2 tub in Winter white which I scored for $250. So a couple of Sundays ago myself and a_total_tool loaded up the trailer and cruised out to Narellan to pick it up.
Then one night in the following week myself , dc_todd, XPFalcon170 and Fairlane6970 got together , consumed JD cans and Pizza and ripped the tray off and fitted a tub.
Image
In this pic you can also see where I had the windows tinted and fitted a set of Advanti 19"s that a mate at work sold to me for next to nothing.
I have some side moulds on the way which I will paint up and replace the black ones on the tub with.

I also removed the full sized weather shields that were on it and fitted the slim line ones. Much better.
Before Donnas XR8 was sold I might of light fingered the Autotech steering wheel off it one afternoon while she was at work...............

Image

Also I purchased a Ram street and strip clutch from Summit for it. After being told by many people that a mustang clutch wouldnt work I did more research and had a few people reckon it would work so I bit the bullet and ordered it.
It was a third of the price of one from Australia and fitted in like it was made for it. So now the clutch actually engages before the very top of the clutch pedal travel. Im still doing the 1000km bed in but so far it seems to be very bity but pretty light.
Short shifter was also fitted while the box was out.
Image

The ute needs a massive wash and clean out as it does daily duties and with the weather being as s**t as it has been it just hasnt been done. Once I get it washed and polished and cleaned on the inside I will get some decent pics of it.
Picking up the suspension this weekend to drop it.

So why do people think the mustang clutch kits won't work? I too have been thinking about a clutch upgrade in the future, and the prices from Summit don't even compare to NZ, basically the same price in NZ for a standard grade item, as it is for a high performance grade from the US.

The AU's sure have aged gracefully, they look modern compared to modern cars.

TL50's get me all horned up  just a shame I haven't seen any for sale.

Mason I reckon people say the Mustang clutch wont work because they just love being a fountain of knowledge about things and love to find fault with peoples plans and ideas.
Even after cross referencing the Mustang clutch kit to the AU clutch kit on the 5.0 and finding they were the same part number I still had people telling me it wouldnt work!
The pricing of the gear state side to us is a joke. I paid $340 delivered for a Ram street and strip heavy duty unit. A heavy duty kit in Australia? $750.

Finally got around to putting the new springs in.
Grabbed a set of lowered AU wagon springs off fleabay for cheap and decided to see how it would come out.
I had to change the rear spring retainers over as ute springs are about half an inch thicker and I couldnt locate the diff properly.
A quick trip to the wreckers and grabbing a set off an EL wagon after a quick phone call to BenJ to confirm some leaf spring wagon goodness and we was ready to roll.
It needs a wash at the moment. Rain , greasy hand prints from working on it and bat s**t isnt going to win any awards.
Image

Found a broken upper balljoint when I was swapping it all over so that was sorted out today and also found the brakes are on the way out. Have a set of BF calipers here and a set of BF drilled and slotted rotors and pads in the mail. Will get onto that when they arrive. Should be interesting to see how effective the budget brake upgrade is.

Thanks mate. Me and the ute havent seen eye to eye since pretty much day one but Im thinking I might be finally slapping it into submission.
Clutch part number is RAM-88794HD on my summit invoice. Full kit including aligning tool. US $199.95+approx $100 shipping.
In other news I have worked out the replacement rear mouldings for the tub so they will be painted tomorrow afternoon and put on before the weekend hopefully.
The nsw MSD coil packs are currently in the air Oz bound and my new brakes are cruising up the Hume Highway from Melbourne as we speak!
Then its just a case of fit it all up , put the extractors on and drag my stereo gear out of retirement and it will be finished for a bit and on with the daily duties.

I forgot to add that I also fitted a Fairmont dash cluster up to it the other day.
Full instrumentation is nice.

Did those moulds get there? You end up using them or went another way?
