{USERNAME} wrote: looks alright mate, are you going the full fill panel or giving it a little window?? Thanks. It will be a fill panel. There is a bit of bracing behind there that needs to be covered up.

Nothing more to report with the truck as of late.
Life has thrown some spanners in the works slowing down progress and the latest spanner is my Sister in Laws 2005 Astra decided to pop the oil pump on the weekend and seize solid. Pick up another motor tomorrow arvo so the next couple of weeks after work will be filled with fixing Astra before Christmas. A good mate of mine and member on here Edzie borrowed my ute last night so his car could be sitting here cooling off overnight for us to fit the new slotted and crossdrilled rotors to it today. The sly bastard decided to do a bit of a photoshoot with it while it was in his possession. Wish I knew. I would of cleaned it first!

Thanks for the nod mate. Was a bit of fun doing it for you.
As far as cleaning it? The darn thing was near spotless anyhow! Yup, there are no photoshop effects in those shots, they are all in camera. Done with a method called lightpainting. Lots of fun, what a person can get up to in a very dark area..... Wont be long and I will have one last practice on another mates car, then I might (read: most likely) start taking orders! Big cheers to you too EVL for the help with the discs and pads. The Turtle has never had more stopping power!

hey again... just a quick question...
the old man has now recieved my auii xr6 vct ute and is in the process of 'fixing it up to sell it' or so is the story... i dont believe him, i think its just a ploy to get mum off his back. Anyways, im trying to convince him to do the 'fairute' upgrade... you recon its worth it? black i6 version of your ute? the current condition is average: bonnet needs respray, front bar is very average both shape and paint, steering wheel needs redoing, seats are alright but average, headlights need replacing, umm plus other things... but yeah just wanted your opinion considering your the only person i know that has a 'fairute'. cheers josh

If your old man wants to keep it and can get the parts for the right price yeah do it. The front is a direct bolt on. If it wasnt a daily driver , I didnt have 3 other projects to spend time and money on and I actually s**t $50 notes instead of just hemoraging them the ute would be getting painted black. It just wont happen when its in my ownership but. I did the front end conversion as I hated the original front end and I got the stuff real cheap. I still wasnt sure how it was going to look even as I was bolting it all on. I get heaps of people saying how different it is and to be honest Im spun put by people saying it. Its an old 80's trick. Back then every second Falcon ute had a Fairlane or LTD front end on it and pretty much every Holden ute had either a GTS front end or WB Statesman front. Currently looking into the TL50 front as a place in Sydney has the moulds to do them in fibreglass........

I think with the amount/level of work that the old man wants to put into it, that it's worth that little bit more to get a better finish to it... I'll continue to push for it I think :p almost got him to buy a v8 ghia just for the interior, then told him to just do the engine while he was at it. The only excuse he could find not to, was that mum would kill him for getting another car... Weak effort dad!
TL50? Heard of TS50 and XR50... Not TL50.

TL50 is the Fairlane version of the TE50 and TS50. Super rare beasts.
I understand where your Dad is coming from about getting another car. At the moment I have here 1. AU 5.0 Ghia 2. AU 5.0 Fairute 3. 5.0 Maverick 4. GQ Patrol that is the basis for the Maverick rebuild 5. XG 4.0 5 speed ute that Im wrecking out 6. Camper Trailer 7. Box trailer. All bar the GQ are registered................

Not gonna make them pay the price of a house just for a hole in the ground that everyone doesn't visit!

Oh well the decision has been made.
The Fairute is being put up for sale. BUT all for good reasons! One of the biggest things taht has been slowing me down from ripping the Mav off the road and getting stuck hard into the rebuild is the fact that when its off the road , for me there will be no more camping trips and getting away from daily life for about 6 months while its being done. Not a situation Im at all happy or comfortable about. So Im planning on selling the ute and buying another GQ for daily duties. It will be staying pretty stock so I dont loose focus of what I want from the Mav and dont get tempted to do stuff in it that will break it. The Mav will be rebuilt and when its done , all the bugs sorted out and is back in active duty , the new Patrol will be sold and I will revisit the V8 play toy. Hard decision but probabl;y one of the smartest Ive made. Now just to find a buyer for the ute and then a patrol....................
