Why another patrol/ Mav? if you were serious about 4x4 you'd buy a Lada Niva, now thats one sexy car
http://www.justauto.com.au/just4x4s/kno ... f5726e7250

I am joking, mind you I had a 1988 model one of these years ago and it was actually a beast. Crank start bar was included just incase the b**ch wouldnt start, cluster lights was an option ( and mine didnt have them), absolute bulletproof basic Russian 1.6L beast. Id love to get another and go nuts modding it, but surprisingly they are hard to find and not cheap to buy anymore

The Lada Niva wouldn't have the balls to drag Matt and his trailer to a campsite, let alone actually climb what he wanted it to climb.

Even as short as he is I dont even think he could comfortably sit in the drivers seat either. Im almost 2m tall and I dont know how I drove it. Great little car though and if you pulled the back seats out and mounted different front seats I reckon it would be ok.
I dont know if anyone's ever bothered dropping a small block in one, but I would not underestimate the little Niva's. Even though they had no balls they never seemed to give up. I blew 2 pistons bush bashing mine and she still kept going for months after with no repairs.

Well I got the s**t with lowballers and dreamers and decided at the end of the day I just couldnt be f**k selling off the Fairute.
Its sucked too much cash and caused too many dramas to get rid of it.
Plus the thought of buying something else and possibly going through the same s**t again.............f**k that it makes me cringe.

The Maverick rebuild stalled for a while there due to Christmas , s**t going on and a lack of motorvation.
Well things have changed there now and there will is some big news on the horizon.
More changes and what first appears to be going backwards but will actually end up being a massive kick in the right direction!

YAY!

i've half convinced the old man to either put a 5.0 in my old xr6, or get a turbo kit for it... also, slowly selling him on the idea of a black fairute... :) :) :) he was going to just do the minor things, but so fair its new rotors, pads, sway bars, wheels, rims, now investigating complete respray and performance upgrades... lol so just the minor things has long gone out the window lol
so glad you are keeping it... i love your ute! :D
looking forward to reading the big news... hope it all goes well for you mate.

Well here is the sidestep of direction.
As most people know I have over the years develloped a bit of a skill at finding vehicles very cheap and either stripping them out or moving them on and making a bit of a profit.
Well it happened again.
While having a flick around the net I found an ad for a Ford Maverick up the Central Coast.
It was cheap as it was but the buyer was very keen to move it on so I went up for a look.
When I got there it was covered in mud and mould and the interior looked like a haybale and grease gun had exploded in it. It also had a busted grille , smashed blinker and taillight and none of the interior electrics worked.
Made a very keen offer on it which he accepted.
Had the vehicle towed down to my place as it was unregistered with intentions of stripping it out to make a profit seeing as though it only owed me $1000.
Well the afternoon it got here I thought it might of been ok under the crud and could possibly be too good to wreck.
Gave it a bath and come up with this.
Image

Replaced the grille and lights with spares I had sitting around and found the wiring fault.
Bloody thing was too good to wreck.
As I was putting it up for sale as a whole unit an ad come up for a Black over Grey TI Patrol manual.
The motor had been pulled apart due to a blown head gasket and the guy that was selling it had lost interest in it due to the mechanical work required.
I really didnt need it , had no room for it and not even a month after Christmas well I couldnt really afford it. So I went and looked at it anyway.
It has a very good body , real good actually in a very desirable color combination and the TI being the luxury version comes will full electrics , better seats and being an EFI model the big twin piston front brakes. These sell on the parts market for $850 alone when they come up.
It also has a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ mud tyres on the factory 16" rims.
With Donnas blessing I decided to get it and asked the seller if I could leave a deposit and get it in a couple of weeks as I had to offload the white Maverick that I had just got from up the coast first.
He said no problems but then asked my what I wanted for the Maverick. I gave him a figure and he said he would talk to his son.
The afternoon later him and his son come out , take the white one for a drive , get back and ask how much extra cash I want on top of the TI for them to take the Maverick.
My reply was if they covered the towing of the white truck to their place and the black one back to mine Id swap.
This is the last I saw of the White Maverick.
Image

So now the new project vehicle is this one.
Image

The plan is still the same just with an even better base to work with.
I will pick out the TI gear that I want and keep and the rest will get sold off. Power windows in a vehicle that goes bush are gay so they are definately going.
The mud tyres and twin piston brakes will be sold off as I already have them on mine.
The blue one here has already turned a profit so it will now be stripped to nothing and excess gear sold off and it will go to scrap metal.
Then the Mav will be stripped , its body sent to heaven and the black over grey body fitted and modified.
Having the body in a much more desirable colour and the fact that I dont have to do anywhere near the amount of paint work to this one as I did have to do to the blue one means the build will happen quicker and save me a lot of dollars.
All in all it just makes a lot of sence.
All this insanity starts tomorrow.............................

You my friend are really a wonder.

I like the new truck. It looks good and will make a better finished product.

Cheers
