I had Some on my EB, I had 265/50/14's on the back and 245/50/14's on the front.....It was a tight fit but they looked awsome. 8-) 8-)

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Frankieh:

How much cutting did you have to do to get the garnish in the boot? I don't want to have to respray the boot, the body kit is done in acrylic and it's not as good as it could be. I don't have the facilities to paint really and it would cost a couple of hundred to get the EB boot sprayed white, so I would rather cut the boot lol.

I have to take the boot off, anyway. Somehow water keeps getting inside it so I'm going to hit it with rust converter and killrust paint before it becomes a problem :)

well... it's not as easy as you might think... the mounts for the garnish are different.. and you will need to cut squares where both rev lights are, and a couple of other places..

If I had to do it again, I'd go and buy a silver EB boot to save myself the effort of cutting or painting.. you could always sell yours to recoup the money..

EB boot probably go for 20-30 dollars anyway.

Well I uploaded some pictures....

Here's the AU being prepped with the EB manifold.

Image

After it's running my mates going to use the electrospec at his work to use the XR6 throttle body, it bolts up fine but we don't know the colours for the ICM wiring. Will be able to see if there's a power gain this way. Would you guys expect a gain from the AU XR6 throttle body compared to the stock EB one? Also, how hard is it to wire up a BBM with the EB wiring? If it could be done, I'd rather do it before the engine goes in. Also, how many RWKW would the BBM equate to compared to the log manifold?

Here it is in the air, we used the AU XR6 injectors.

Image

Nearly in, before the sump cracked, lol...

Image

Here's the EA dash out (the top half of the EB is in now, will finish and install engine probably tomorrow)

Image

Random pic of the engine bay before the engine went in

Image

Hope you guys like it. It's nothing like the other builds on here, but I am enjoying it immensly. I'm also pretty proud of it. It's come a fair way from being a stock fairmont a couple of months ago in the hands of a red plater with hardly any knowledge lol.

If a grinder, some time and a beer or two will get through it, I'd rather not go to the expense of hunting down and buying a white EB boot, I know it's not much money but it's money I don't have to throw around when the build isn't fully completed. As I said, I've got to get some rust converter and killrust into the boot anyway, so I might aswell cut it up. Have you got a build thread with documented pictures of what you cut?

Also, I thank you for trying to save me frustration, I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, but I do need to conserve the cash lol. Tight A$$ right?

Also, for what it's worth... I have an AU BBM, an EL BBM and about 5 ECU's. Pretty sure one's an EL, not sure which though.

IF I use the EL ECU and plug it into the EB wiring and use the EL manifold, will it all run with a smartlock bypass?

I'll just have to determine which ECU is which.....

I think you will find the AU and EB throttle bodies are the same internal diametre, and there would be no gain to be had from not using the EB one.

Is the EB wiring from a Smartlock car? There should be an orange/red module that sits above the handbrake cable if it is.

If it is smartlock then, yes an EL ECU will work fine.

Yeah, it's a smartlock EB, that's why I need the module. So if I use the EB wiring but with an EL ECU the EL BBM will run fine? I may as well do that then.

On AFF, I posted all the codes for the different ECU's I had. If I post them here and you read them, would you be able to tell me which ECU is the EL one? I have no idea and no one's been able to tell me.

yeh post up the ECU codes.
If it has a part number of 96da or a catch code starting with 6 its EL IIRC.

Thanks man! Both of these ECU's came with a 3.9 liter engine I bought with a BBM on the side of it, the guy had it in an XC I think lol.... Got everything for $5 lol....

on the backside of each of them, there's a ford symbol stamped. One says

SMB-3E

The other says

SMB-IE

there is a 12 digit code on the back of each of them and they are the same, directly above this 12 digit code it one says:

2188

The other says

3033

on the front it says near the barcode

K8F24 (in texter)
EEC-IV *761* 7DDD
CFI-SD 153 87DA-12A650DD

The other is the same, except the bit in texter says

C8H04

I didn't really do a build because I thought it would be easy...

If you use the EB rear loom, at least you'll spare yourself the wiring adaptors I had to make.. but as for the cutting.. take off both garnishes and make the EA boot look like the EB one.

Fair enough, I'm pretty handy with a grinder and if it looks crap atleast the garnish will hide it, haha ;)

Thanks mate!

just be careful.. in a couple of places the holes you cut will be close to the edges of the garnish..

forgot the mention.. there are a couple of places where some panel bashing will be required... you'll see what I mean when you get both the garnishes off.
