Just checked out that thread, some pretty good chops there, the Lane looks immaculate too.

Looks great as is I reckon, although I can't help but imagine how it would look with a BA/BF bonnet bulge. It's also missing a 5.0 motor I think :P

Finally got my hands on some DD's

Image

Still can't believe the mounting depth of the DD woofers, its almost non existent compared to the Hertz woofers lol.. DD on the left, Response Precision in the middle and Hertz on the right. Also note that the DD and Response woofers have rubber magnet protectors adding a few more mm's to overall depth. At least I know I won't have a single issue with clearances.
Image

Should be putting these DD's in this weekend for sure, as well as finish off deadening the doors and maybe the parcel shelf too.

paint it meteorite i tells ya !! :P

thats what mine were painted, and they looked hot against a dark coloured car....... i think its the same paint code as the bottom half of the AU fairlane sportsmans

Hows it man, Heres some pics of my cars ride height as promised agessssss ago lol, Yes im a slack f**k! Sits alot lower on passenger side due to a couple of bugered bushes, tire just in guard lower, but just took drivers side to give you a rough idea of the ride height. Finally got new clutch in it too, 6puk, drives well for a puk clutch, worth the money. Please excuse the smashed bumper lol, to many drinks and encouraged to do skids = broken things lol.

Hey FF, meteorite sounds like a winner mate. It's a very nice looking colour, it actually looks pretty much like the exact shade I'm wanting too, a nice dark-ish grey/silver.. Think I might have to take a trip up to the paint shop and see what they can mix up for me.

Did you paint your Concorde's yourself or get someone to do it? Do you know what sort of paint was used? I'm worried that if I just get something mixed up at the auto paint shop, it might not be as durable as I'd want it to be if that makes sense. Hopefully on the next long weekend, whenever that is, I'll be able to pull the wheels off one at a time and get them painted up. They are quite nasty looking in current form lol.

Hey Lowkey, how's it dude? Your EL looks sweet man, sits very nicely I reckon. Cool colour too. If I had 17's, I think mine would sit similar to that in the rear as it is right now, with the 16's I've got at the moment with 225/50 tyres it sits almost like that, probably 5-10mm higher.

I could probably go for a 225/55 tyre for a touch more sidewall and hopefully close up the gap between tyre and guard. I could really do with a new set of tyres so that might actually be a good time to change to that sidewall profile.

I know it definitely tucks the rears very well with 2 people in the back, well enough to make the whole rear end creak and make weird noises that I've never heard before lol, I think I'll be up for a whole rear end re-bush soon. Might also have to do something about correcting the pinion angle if I go a bit lower too, seems to vibrate a bit with a full car load.

Yeah good man, Cheers it has come a long way since i first got it stock standard!
yeah mine sits really low with people in the back, sometimes gets guard rub, think the shocks may be a bit buggered. When it was on the hoist today i seen on the rear arm things where it attaches to the diff it has 3 holes for movement of the arms, is this how you correct the pinion angle you speak of? Was also talking to this old guy who has a 4.0L landcruiser, he has a toyota levin supercharger strapped to the side and reckons it makes a good power upgrade, not sure of the model of charger or size but going to have a look on trademe and see what i can find!

FF - Oh nice, 2pak would nice and durable I would think, and being sprayed by a professional always helps. I got a few quotes last week for getting the Concordes resprayed in whatever colour I wanted. Some places were saying $400~ for a set of 4, then there was this one specialized wheel mob that said $200 a wheel - luckily I was sitting down when the bastard said that lol..

I remember seeing pic's of your wheels close up in a thread somewhere on here, they pretty much looked like a mirror with the reflection they had, perfect finish indeed. Wonder if XR-Lane still has them?

LowKey - yep those 3 hole positions could be to adjust the pinion angle I would think. From memory these 3 bolt hole positions were introduced with EL diffs, fairly sure EF diffs, well non-tickford at least didn't have this option. Not sure if the extra holes are there simpy for adjusting pinion angle or for use when using different upper arms (theres 3 different types of arms throughout the EF-EL range IIRC)

Re: the supercharger, from memory the Levin used a SC14 blower? Would be way to small for a 4.0 falcon I reckon, simply wouldn't be capable of pushing enough air unless you manage to run some epic amount of boost through it and even then would still be way undersized lol. There was a guy on here before with one setup on his EL, not sure how well it went though. Better off with a low boost turbo setup or a M112 blower kit from Snort IMO.[/b]

Yeah was guessing they were for different arms, or changing the angle slightly, one day i shall have a fiddle and let you know what they do lol. just been for a decent drive, man the puk clutch is fun, been taking it easy in regards to dumping it, flat shifting etc for now but just going round corners and planting foot theres no give in clutch, real tight and steps out haha. good fun.
as for the charger, yeah i thought it would also be to small, as made for a orange juice (2L) but when i heard the story of 1 running on the land cruiser 4.0L with pretty good results i thought it may be worth a go, i would go turbo or snort setup but the price sort of makes me want to have a play with something cheaper for now, i did see the EL on here with the sc14 on it, but didnt see anywhere in thread on how well it went, will see what else i can find out around the show, can get a sc14 for $250. which to me is cheap, but waste of time if it dont work lol. anyway leave you to it, ive written a novel here lol good reading.

Time for a bit more of a rant.. lol

Went hunting around for a bit more sound deadening today just incase I needed a bit extra. Picked up a decent sheet of something very similar to DMX, but at pretty much half the cost. Seems to be just as good physically, whether or not it does as good a job is yet to be discovered.

Went to Jaycar and bought a whole heap of spade M and F connectors and a few rolls of Heavy Duty Sound Barrier Damping Material which I'll use for the parcel shelf since it vibrates quite badly. At $12 a roll it was worth a try, it is quite thick and heavy so I'm picking it'll work good. So it'll be DMX over the parcel shelf steel, then the Jaycar barrier stuff over the top followed by the carpet, should definitely be quite sturdy then and absorb any vibrations from the bass. Also went to pick a part, noticed that a 2001 Fairlane was in the yard, complete with black leather interior. Pity it's been raining on and off for the past few days, so the leather is all wet and dirty etc, damn shame because the leather is in fairly decent nick and I could grab it cheap, however some C*** took the rear seat base out to use as a cushion when working under the car . Managed to grab a black leather handbrake boot so that'll be going in tomorrow.

Finished deadening the drivers door tonight with 2 sheets of DMX and enlarged the speaker cutout to accommodate a 6.5" woofer. Deadened completely on the outer skin, and did as best I could to deaden the inside skin, although there is another sort of sheet of steel in between the 2 skins for where the door handle mechanism link is so it's pretty hard to fully deaden the entire door, but I found just adding even a small amount of the DMX, it makes the sheet feel much more solid. The door feels quite rigid and sturdy now and has added a few kg's of extra dead weight lol.. Should be great for the front stage no doubt

Image

Easily fits the DD CS6.5 woofer in, until I made a discovery that really p****d me off. On one woofer, the spider has lifted away completely from the basket, so pretty unusable in that state. Sucks because I bought them fairly cheap, 2nd hand in good condition so it's the last thing I expected. Funny thing is I'm pretty sure it was still intact when I first took them out of the box as I pushed down lightly on the cones of each woofer to check the smoothness of the movement/excursion and both seemed fine. Just lightly tapping on the cone of the new found f**k one now you can instantly tell it's not right and I don't remember that at all. Anyway, will be sending it away to get the spider re-glued at some stage during the week depending on how much I'll be up for, not game enough to do it attempt it myself since there is bugger all room to work with the woofer being so compact/slimline. Either way, not happy Jan!

Kind of glad this happened though.. Decided to see how the Hertz woofers went in with the larger cutout.. To my surprise, went in nicey and cleared the window.. JUST! I'm guessing without the 6mm MDF spacer it'll give me a bit more clearance between the door trim so I'm gonna stop being a b**ch about it and just put them in. Will do a quick comparison against the DD's and see how they go, but the Hertz will be taking the place without a doubt, just have to sort out the tweeter mounting as I can't get the desired angle with the supply mounting cups :|

That sucks mate, good to hear you can get it repaired though. I've always thought once speakers were broken, that was it!

How good is the sound deadener? Is it adhesive or do you have to apply it with stuff? I've been looking at Dynamat but I can't justify spending the coin on the s**t.

I'm hoping it ain't too expensive to repair is all. I paid $120 for the set 2nd hand but in VGC (RRP is something ridiculous like $400NZ, which is way overpriced for something entry level), so if it's gonna cost any more than say $60-$70 I might not bother with it at all. I've spent so much unnecessary coin on audio lately, its not funny. Could have easily have gotten another dyno run, a J3 chip custom tuned and sent over from Aussie, and another dyno run to check with cash to spare with what I've spent in the last couple of months..

The Dynamat Xtreme stuff is gold mate, makes a hell of difference. It has a butyl self adhesive backing so just peel off the protective paper and apply it straight onto the panels. Bit of nuisance to apply, but it's definitely worth it. Before and after differences I had with my bootlid were stupidly noticeable. Great if you want to reduce road noise in the cabin as it soaks up outside noise and panel vibrations/resonances very well. Works wonders for car audio setups reducing rattles, firming up panels where speakers are mounted etc. Seriously though, apply it to a flimsy panel of the car and see how much more solid it feels afterwards.

I bought this stuff off trade me today which is very similar at like half the price (same butyl type adhesive backing with aluminium face) but haven't applied it yet to see if it's as effective as the DMX >> link

You sure do go that extra mile. :)
I looked into getting the Dynamat but it is a little pricy for me at the moment, I have other things on the boil for the time being so the Dynamat will have to go on the back burner, Brakes for the rear of Lucifa, booster change and new M/cyl.:)

Ford used to use a rubberized style material for the floor deadening on earlier Falcons and I am trying to find some as it is now obsolete. You had to put it on with a heat gun and I redid my whole floor in the old XD I had and it made SO much difference and would love to get more. I am pretty sure Bostik used to make the stuff but when I rang them they said they no longer had such a thing?

PS, you should get a job in journalism, I think you have the making of a good writer. :)

That dynamat stuff looks really tidy on the door, did you remove the standard sound deading from door before installing that stuff? or over the top?

Hope you can reply, hopefully the world didnt end up there in auckland lol, what a joke ay, im feeling pretty alive..... Another false prediction. 18/10/15 is when its going to end.....
