Is 4500rpm where it stops making power? 500rpm can make a big difference to how fast the car can run.

Wow, your car is faster than mine at the moment...
I did a 2.48 60foot and a 15.371 ET, I guess they are pretty much the same apart from the launch. I should really get onto those adaptors and do the same with my car, you made it sound like they do wonders. Car looks awesome as always Nathan. |

In all honesty, I'm not 100% sure where it stops making power as I haven't put it back on the dyno with the cam I'm currently running. My previous cam which had a higher powerband than this started tapering off at 4950rpm (this was with a standard spark advance map before I added a fair bit more timing in via my tune). My current cam starts pulling much lower in the rev-range but feels like it has a broader powerband, so at a guess I'd say it would drop off around the 5000rpm area with where it's currently dialed in. I did run it Power mode allowing it to rev out to my set rev limit of 5600rpm, but could only manage 15.6's. Flicked in Econ mode and was straight into low 15's. Need to have a play with my tune as apparently I change alter WOT shift points and then I can set them to around about the RPM where the cam drops off. {USERNAME} wrote: Wow, your car is faster than mine at the moment... Cheers mate, I always try to keep her looking as best she can when she's out at the drags Mate, drop that 60' down to a 2.2x and you'll be amazed how much it makes up for at the end of the strip. I was getting similar 60' with my old cam and couldn't get better than a 15.6 Sticky tyres and a good launch should work wonders for ya . What sort of trap speed you getting? |

I got 91.8mph, when I was auto I had 92.4, mind you since then my motor has been running a little better. I think it's the fact that I can't launch for s**t (yet) and need to work out better shift points. I was changing at 5600rpm.

Giddy mate, love the Fairmont, looking to price up a similar chromed intake. Where did you get it or did you put it together?

I just made this intake up out of some random 3" alloy bends and a couple of silicon joiners here and there. What intake setup are you running currently? Just saw your post over in Tyler's build thread, looks like you've got some pretty serious mods. Who tuned your beast? |

Hey bud, Auckland Performance installed a uni-chip about 8 years ago. the last time they actually tuned it was about 4 years ago. I went back recently told them what I had told them I wanted a retune and reference power before installing the head. After the dyno they told me they don't support the chip any more!!! What a mish to get the car over there from west AKL! and all for nothing!
Head put on about 4 weeks ago, last dyno on Wednesday at Tourque who can install a J3 and tune for basicly 1 million dollars!! ($1700+) Mate you bay is so tidy!! I keen to get mine up that standard!! And that pretty clever with the intake pipe. I'm not industrious like that. I like kits or some one else doing it is always a bonus haha! |

Jeez, that's a bit steep lol. Sadly, Torque Performance is probably the only place that would be willing to tune these in Auckland. I'd honestly invest in a J3 chip from TI Performance and let him know what mod's you have done + provide a copy of your latest dyno sheet and see what he can do.
Stuff paying $1700 for a J3 and dyno tune! For that sort of money, you could save a bit more, buy a Link G4, have it wired in and tuned by any number of tuning places in Auckland. Almost all the big names in the tuning game specialise in Link ECU's so it wouldn't be hard to find a tuner, just need deep pockets for the ECU and wiring itself, then pay the usual rate for tuning from there on. For that reason, I just bought a TI Performance J3 chip + programmer and a Innovate wideband kit and decided to give DIY road tuning a good crack Should bring your car down to Meremere sometime for a run down the 1/4 mile. That'll be a good indication of what sort of power it's making currently. With the mod's it's got done, it should be pretty impressive! |

Awesome Pics!! And yeah I have taking on board what people are saying here about the quarter. Torque did say their dyno gives different results but I just blew it off. The only constant is the strip. Is TI the crowd on Ebay selling them for like 500 bucks for the boo yaa J3 model? I asked torque if I could supply the chip and they were not interested. I emailed Uni-chip to see if they did a DIY kit but AU said they didn't. But the J3 can adjust so much more inc shifting which the uni can't do. How is your DIY tuning going? one of the guys at work has a cousin that owns a tuning shop in Pukekohe. I would have to pay but pretty sure I could get dyno time if I got a kit!

Sorry mate, so many questions. You polished water overflow, does it use the factory level sensor? I think I found the same oni in Oz I think for $350AU

Nathan, car looks awesome as always! 4500rpm does sound like a low shift point, there's gotta be a high 14 in it Your posts about the upper arm adaptors are really tempting me too.
Kayne, we do sell on eBay, but our chips are not $500 so you may be looking at someone else! Our website is http://www.tiperformance.com.au and prices are slightly cheaper there as there are no eBay fees (10%+!!!). PM or email me if you have any questions. Cheers, Jason

Yeah man, they weren't wrong about dyno's giving different results! A couple of mates have had their cars dyno'd by Robin @ Torque Performance. One of them made 335rwkw with his BF XR6 turbo, the other made 391rwkw with his Kenne Bell supercharged BA XR8. Both of them rocked up to a dyno day we had a Revolution Dyno Centre and the XR6T pulled 305rwkw and the XR8 just shy of 340rwkw. Mine made 3rwkw less than what it made on Protune's dyno. Shows how different figures can be I guess! The T.I j3 chip is way cheaper than $500, I'd buy direct through them rather than through Ebay. Can be found here: http://www.tiperformance.com.au/products/ Jason's a top bloke to deal with and has great after sales support. Best bang for buck when it comes to tuning the E-series ECU. My DIY tuning is getting along pretty decent. I'm by no means an expert tuner, more a novice looking to get the best out of what I've got . Definitely does make a big difference to fuel economy and torque just by doing simple things like trimming/adding fuel where required and adding a few degrees of timing. Then you have all other little things like idle speeds, rev limits, shift firmness and shift points etc, so much to play and experiment with! That tuning place in Puke would happen to be E&H motors by any chance? Along with Hitech Motorsport, they'd have to be one of the better tuning shops in South Auckland I'd say, they've been behind the tuning side of things of some very quick cars! As for the polished overflow tank, yep, this one has the threaded hold for the factory coolant level sensor. That price sounds about right, the guy I bought this off, bought it direct from PWR for a similar price. I got lucky and got it off him brand new and un-used for $250 |

Cheers Jase . Hopefully it does have a high 14 in it, so I'm going to play with shiftpoints tonight and see how it goes. I'd be pretty happy to get this into the 14's in NA form with it's current power before it gets a make over next year . I'm fairly confident it will crack a 14, just need to get it off the line harder and keep it revving in it's powerband. Even pulled out my entire boot install this weekend so I could try get it close to factory weight again. Hoping it'll make a difference this weekend Got a Ford drag day coming up this Saturday and have been provoked into having some grudge runs against a VR Clubsport that a mate's mate recently bought. Managed to smash his VT Calais (supercharged 3.8L) last year, so I think he's keen for revenge . I'll be pretty p****d if I can't manage to give him a good go haha. |
