Then one day you wont be able to handle it any more and you'll be looking for engine mounts to suit your car. Then its all go from there!!! hahaha Hahaha mate, believe me, i know that feeling already. At first i was like, nah i dont think id ever put an old school V8 into my EF, but when you see the thing all the time and have a bit of a clue of what it could be capable of when a bit of work has been put into it, makes you change you mind Time will tell i guess, but i think i love the i6 engine too much to take it out of my EF, might have to start looking around for another EF for the transplant fiend wrote: Start checking TradeMe for TopLoaders..... Lol dont you try and tempt me either, or else i will checking Trade Me for a Toploader, a 9 inch diff etc etc list goes on ... |

A few quick snaps from today, pulled basically all the parts out of the garage to sort everything out and check to see if everything was there, what is needed etc..
Will need a few things, namely a new dizzy, spark plug leads, lifters and pushrods have a bit of surface rust which needs to be sorted, cylinders will need a quick hone before assembly, the cam looks a bit worn so may need to be reground, will most likely need a new waterpump as the current one doesnt sound too flash when its turned and few other little things but thats about it so far.. Had to laugh when we took the exhaust manifolds and rocker covers off the heads, the exhaust ports on these heads are sooo small its not funny. First time ive ever really pulled anything apart on a old school V8 engine before so it was pretty good seeing all the parts and figuring out where everything went. Cant wait to get it all together and hear it running |

ashcook wrote: US ebay is your friend with old Ford V8 parts. Especially for performance stuff. Australia is just stupidly over priced so I guess NZ would be the same? Mate, that looks so tempting even to me and your miles from where I am. Cough project car cough Thanks for the tip there Ash, you're not wrong about that mate, Ebay US seems to have a s**t load of windsor parts.. The prices are quite expensive depending where you go so yeah it would probably be around the same prices as the parts in Oz. Theres a performance parts place here (http://www.staparts.co.nz/) that i go to quite regularly, they specialise in Ford and Chev V8's and their prices are quite reasonable. Everytime i walk in there i start drooling at all their crate engines on display .. Most of the Ford engines they have on display are windsor's (302's, 347's, 392's) all starting from around 400hp in a crate. They can even get a 521ci Super Cobra Jet motor pushing the 600hp mark.. Would love to know how much one of those would go for.. This is their fully assembled 347 windsor crate motor.. Specs: 347 cubic inch 415 HP @ 6000 RPM (with headers and 650 cfm Holley carburetor, not included) 400 ft./lbs. of torque @ 4900 RPM 10:1 compression ratio (nominal) Ford Racing aluminum "Z" cylinder heads M-6049-Z304DA, Roller rocker arms M-6564-F351 Ford Racing high-performance hydraulic roller camshaft M-6250-F303 Single plane "Victor Jr." intake manifold M-9294-D302 Mahle forged pistons, Forged steel crankshaft M-6250-C340, Forged steel connecting rods Heavy-duty 302 race block, oil and water pumps and a high-performance harmonic damper. Champ oval track oil pan. MSD Billet Distributor. Engine is sealed for circle track competition where rules allow. Engine is internally balanced, "0" balance flywheel required. Flywheel is not included. That comes in at $13904.84 inc GST. Just to give you more of an idea on parts, an Edelbrock 750CFM Performer Series Manual Choke Square-Bore carby costs around the $540 mark brand new Had a quick look on Ebay US just after i read your post, was good to see there is a lot of parts there to suit 351w, seems quite hard to find second hand aftermarket parts for a 351 in windsor form over here.. Been trying to find a second hand 4 barrel manifold for the motor on Trade Me (NZ Ebay lol) and there is only 1 ive found so far, an second hand Offenhauser dual port starting from $300 facer01 wrote: wow id be straight into that aye. it would be soooo nice in an ef thats all i have to say. I know what you mean mate, im over the moon just knowing that i have one in the garage Will be interesting to see what the project car will eventually turn out to be for this motor.. At this stage, all we're worried about is putting it together and firing her up |

Ash, you're a legend!!!
Those Atlantic Speed guys have got some pretty nice prices dont they, thanks for suggesting them mate. Definately will keep them in mind when it comes time for upgrading. Have been having a quick skim through Summit's website as well and they seem quite reasonable. Isn't shipping a b**ch though Anyways mate, thanks for tips, appreciate it Hmm, well i got a bit bored this weekend and decided to do this.. I shaved the airbox lid . Pretty basic mod, but im amazed at how much is smoothens the look of the engine bay on that side. Also gave it and the snorkel a quick hit of gloss black to go with the rocker cover and belt cover. Sorry Fiend, i know i said that was it for the engine bay, but i had to do this So far the car is running very nicely, has a bit more oomph now that the ECU has finally re-learnt everything. And even though i have been absolutely hammering the car ever since the new o2 sensor and AU injectors went in, the fuel economy is a bit better, right now i think the trip comp is reading around 18.5 per 100kms with all my thrashing around. Should start dropping over the next few days as im gonna try and baby it around more to save spending so much on fuel each week For the next mod, i may start working on an adjustable shiftkit which should have the auto going a bit better |

The bloody lever inside the cabin to release the bonnet catch has fallen out of place on numerous occasions though so it wont be long before something else lets go |

Haha, its only a matter of time I hope it doesnt decide to go all of sudden and i cant open the bonnet facer01 wrote: thats definately one nice engine bay. im sure a turbo or the new engine would make it even better though Thanks mate, dont tempt me with those ideas either, im already struggling enough as is I was thinking boost later on down the track, but i think ive decided against it as of late. I wanna keep the Fairmont N/A, but a tough reliable one at that. Hoping to probably push 150~kw at the wheels when i finish porting the head and get all the valve work and springs sorted, match that up with an even bigger cam, and get it all custom tuned to suit. Then get the rest of the driveline (diff and trans) up to scratch so its pretty much bullet proof.. Then that will be it i think, its my first car so dont wanna go too overboard with it. I'll save that for the next project which is where this V8 might come in play Mar55s wrote: by the look of all the pics there.. all the engine bits are near your ride so one day when nobody is looking... just chuck the V8 in i reckon... LOL i wish mate, i wish. Believe me, its very tempting but i dont think i could do it, well not on my Fairmont anyway, im quite fond of the i6 in it Time will tell though, will see how things turn out once the motor is built and running |

Far out man, that looks sweet! The wheels really suit the colour well, I often wondered what a set of those would look life on an EF. It's given me a few more ideas for Rachs car now
