What rotors are those in the end? Did I miss something here? And have you found a good quality metallic heat paint too? Very good trick that paint.......

Head is coming along nicely too... If only I didn't sell the spare Tickford EL head.... Sigh.

Ended up getting these rear rotors branded "Competition Components" which in my view is a no name rotor :lol:. Still, they look okay, the slots are pretty small length-wise but at least there are slots there to help with de-glazing etc. Picked them up for $125 pair new which for slotted rotors is cheap as chips. I can't afford the $300 odd for a pair Znoelli's yet, but i will treat the Mont to a full set of Znoelli slotted and dimpled rotors, with their special pads once i start working again - that should set me back around $800ish

The paint i used is just some Septone Brake Caliper paint in Satin Black, i just applied a normal VHT primer first, then a couple of coats of this brake caliper paint and it came out all good. I sprayed the front rotors a long time ago using the normal VHT primer in grey and it's still holding up fine, no flakes or nothing so this caliper paint should be just fine :wink:

Thanks buddy, yeah its getting there slowly. The guy who owns that 351w that we have here, popped around this morning and dropped of a whole heap of carbide cutters, grinding stones and various flapper wheels which will come in very very handy for the rest of the work that needs to be done on this head so that should keep me busy for a while :lol:

Im pretty handy with the die grinder so i find porting pretty straight forward, plus im into the whole concept of improving airflow :lol:. The only thing i had to learn was which areas of the ports to work on most to get the best increases in flow, i.e where and where not to take material out and how much to take out etc. so i did a lot of reading about that. Search for the "Porting Bible" on here that tickford_6 posted, WagonDad posted some really good info on a head that he ported himself, he did a top notch job too which is one of my inspirations for porting this head.

As for the rotors, i got them off Trade Me. The guy i got them off ("cheapaspares") is a little unreliable so i wouldn't really recommend him at all to be honest especially going by the feedback he's been getting lately. Only reason i bought off him was because he stays somewhere in Auckland so if he f**k up i can personally pay him a visit without making too much of a trip :lol:. With my first purchase off him a few months back, it took him over a week to personally drop off my O2 sensor after i paid for it with no contact to let me know about the delay - i think the main issue is his stuff is sent over from Aussie. Luckily with the rotors he dropped them off asap because he had them in stock. I think i got lucky though, as he usually sells them at $250 a pair but he put them up with a $125 reserve and i placed my bid 2 mins before the auction ended so score for me :lol:. Depending on what kind of rotors you want (standard, slotted, slotted and dimpled etc) i'd actually recommend Znoelli brake rotors. Fiend uses them and says they work well, which is good enough for me. A bit pricey but you usually pay for quality. They're designs are pretty good so i'll be getting my brake setup off them next. The sell their brakes on Trade Me under the username "theprofessor". {DESCRIPTION}

Good to hear you finally got it on mate, sounds pretty tough when you first fire it up and hear that deep tone. I loved it and still am :lol:

LOL, you talking about the rear section where it clamps onto the short bit of pipe after the first muffler?? Just be sure to re-check all the nuts/bolts along the exhaust system after a few days. Mine loosened up a bit a few drives after i fitted it, so i had to re-tighten things.

Use some Maniseal (muffler putty) in the slip joint. It heats up and fills any gaps left.

Cheers

Thanks for the tip BenJ, that actually may come in handy for next time the exhaust comes off. I did have plans of maybe removing the rear section to get the rear muffler taken out and replaced with a Flowmaster type one along with a set of twin tips instead of the oval i have now so i'll give that a go for sure.

Nah, they're still sitting in the garage collecting dust. At least i know the paint will have fully dried now its been a couple of days :lol:

I went to supercheap today and saw they have Ferodo Zero pads which i don't know much about as i haven't used them before, but after reading a bit on here and seeing that a few members are using them and find them alright, i may give a go so i'll go down tomorrow if they are open and see if they have a set to suit

Butting in again (sigh...) but I find Ferodo better than bloody Bendix or whatever they're called. Not sure about Aussies straight roads, but over in NZ where you have to actually use brakes regularly whilst going down hills... Well... Bendix work alright, but... Well... This post is becoming a useless bit of drivel... But, well... THREE - FOUR MONTHS out of a brand new front set ($100) with my slotted dimpled rotors that stop just as well with Ferodo for a lot longer... And the amount of crap all over the wheels was astounding. Not super stoked with the Bendixes. Am sure it varies a lot on a lot of conditions, but stuff it. Not wasting that sort of money if it can be avoided.
